Jelly Bean - Android 4.1

HTC has not made an official statement yet, but I am sure the One S and One X will get JB. How long it'll take and how feature-complete it'll be, I don't know.

It doesn't say that it IS sorted. Just that it supports it.
The phone was never the limiting factor, it was always the sync to GoogleMail that made them low res.

It is sorted:

Truly HD contact photos

Ice Cream Sandwich introduced the updated People app, which boasted a cool looking large contact pictures. They looked great on the Google demos, but once users got to test them, they weren't quite as impressive.

That's because Google was using the contact photos from Gmail, which were limited top 96x96 pixels. Put simply, they looked terrible on the HD display of the Galaxy Nexus.

Fortunately, Google got around to fixing them in Jelly Bean by increasing the maximum possible resolution to 720x720 pixels. This may not sound like much, but it was a major eye sore that accompanied every call.

App Encryption

Starting with Android 4.1, Google Play will help protect application assets by encrypting all paid apps with a device-specific key before they are delivered and stored on a device.

Dammit! :D

Smart App Updates

Smart app updates is a new feature of Google Play that introduces a better way of delivering app updates to devices. When developers publish an update, Google Play now delivers only the bits that have changed to devices, rather than the entire APK. This makes the updates much lighter-weight in most cases, so they are faster to download, save the device’s battery, and conserve bandwidth usage on users’ mobile data plan. On average, a smart app update is about 1/3 the size of a full APK update.

Great! :)

Cheers mrk - Google's Siri is awesome!

So, for the S3, will the Google voice search thing replace S-Voice or do we think Samsung might disable the Google one?

Am I right in thinking that the Google Voice is only on Jellybean and not on ICS?

There is no chance Samsung are going to drop their S-voice for googles stock experience especially after it being the main highlight of the marketing and presentation.

It would be the equivalent to HTC dropping sense for stock ICS :p

At best they will bring the improvements like quicker access and probably a more human voice etc.

Although I am pretty sure that we will all be able to install the apk of google's siri, without having to have root etc. :)

Google's siri looks superb and I actually would use it every now and then as well I think  despite it being a gimmick :p

What are the chances of jb coming to the One S? I am upgrading from a Wildfire next week so might consider something else if I will miss out...

As said very high, there is no way HTC would so something so stupid and abandon the S after only being released since April. However, it will probably take a bit longer no doubt, so I wouldn't expect anything for at least 2 months.

That is certainly great! :D

3 - 6 months I would imagine if you go by the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade.

If you have a stock Samsung ROM (rooted or not) then you will be able to upgrade via Kies or over the air just like the Galaxy S II. Samsung of course, may change that!

If you however use a AOSP or AOKP based ROM (CM9 etc) then expect to see Jelly Bean within July I would say. As soon as the source is in the AOSP tree, then people should be able to sync the changes quite quickly - faster than 2.3 - 4 anyways!

So when is this due out for the SGS3??...also seeing as im rooted, would i need to unroot then install this update when and if it comes??.

If you want it sooner, stay rooted and install a custom rom when one gets released. Samsung have only just rolled out ICS to the S2 - almost a year after it was announced :p

Yep might do that, am thinking about flashing a custom rom on my rooted SGS3 but not sure yet so am holding off. Might as well wait till the new JB roms come out then do the flash.

ICS was announced in Oct/Nov - was released on the S2 in April.

@ Nexus - came out on the sensation a few weeks before the S2. Say late march.

Ah ok, thanks :)

Hopefully the one S/X will get jellybean pretty quick then considering it isn't a massive upgrade like ICS............... hopefully :p

Haha, awesome, my phone's just asked me if I will want to know the traffic/driving time to 'Work', idenitified in Huddersfield - that's some clever shizz. Shame I lost my job a few weeks ago! :( :D

Sorry you lost your job. At least you have an awesome android phone though ;)

That's a pretty poor video for you to attempt to put Siri down...

I agree that google's implementation appears strong but other videos reflect the improvements somewhat better. That video doesn't show anything like Siri being "owned".

It seems to be swings and roundabouts between them but the main issue with Siri appears to be speed related... I imagine because most of the general knowledge questions are answered via Wolfram Alpha whereas Google simply pull straight from Google... if not that, it's a general coding inefficiency that hopefully Apple will improve on.

The voice for Google is more human sounding, but Siri is and always will be the iconic voice... sadly we get that ridiculous man for the UK :( Nobody can deny that Siri actually has an established "personality"... which is quite strange in fairness!

Off topic but I'm really hoping they implement alternate voices for these assistants... Homer Simpson, Bender, celebrity voices etc would be cool!
