What on earth made you believe I did ?
If there are a few roads or motorways that are congested or have holes in them, in my eyes the roads aren't good enough overall.
every traffic jam is one too many.

i dont think the point of this thread is about motorways, or main roads.... but more the fun "driving roads" through the countryside mountains etc...?

No it doesn't, they're all pot holed, and congested as well as having ironworks in the wrong places

I have to agree with that. there are many roads around here like that,
On the bike coming out of a corner right across your line there's double man hole covers. up by Lochearnhead you go one direction on a streach of road and there's none go the other way and they are on every corner.

You have to go to the right places but yeah, theres some lovely roads.
Only trouble is a lot of roads need resurfacing properly.

Actualy talking of roads and resurfacing. our local council has decided to cover our street in some form of strange gritty asphalt. it isnt smooth like usual but like gravel so when you drive over it you hear little stones hitting the bottom of the car. On the bike its even more fun as it gathers on parts. There are also patches where they have clearly run out.
We actually have some quite fun roads around here but they are a joke since the winter and actualy prior to that they wern't "that" much cop in terms of asphalt quality.
There was a news headline recently of "Haywards Heath - Third world roads" which is pretty close, the surface is past a joke, its actually dangerous with potholes enough to swallow a good 1/3 of the wheel, already destroyed one alloy this year

Is it not the type that uses cars to bed it in rather than them doing it properly
its strange. stuff. i cant see how a car would bed this in. I know the type of stuff you talk about but this is like they haven't had enough of the "glue" or what ever its called to stick it down and is a bodged job.
it never beds in, our road was done a year ago, and its still a mess. loose stone everywhere, its also very soft still which means it sticks to my shoes etc. Terrible stuff.

really? I can remember lots of pretty ropey french and spanish roads from various trips?.
On the whole if you take the motorways in the UK & compared them to the motorways in Europe - ours are of worse quality. Same goes for A-roads, B-roads & possibly City & Town roads... of course there will be exceptions. But then again it is typical of us Brits to moan about the quality of our roads even if they were decent!
Pretty sure we do have Belgiums roads then.
Though to be fair, after 3 months they have finally fixed the 6 foot long pothole on the M4 (originally it was between lanes, but thanks to the perma-roadworks you couldn't really avoid driving into it, unless you straddled two lanes)
