PROPER Shields
Hello there, I've just put this system together today:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4GHz 1066MHz) Socket 775 L2 8MB Cache (2x4MB (4MB per core pair)) Retail Boxed Processor
Western Digital WD5000AAKB 500GB Hard Drive 7200rpm 16MB Cache - OEM
NEC AD7170S Serial ATA 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM
Asus P5K Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU (CMPSU-520HXUK)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775)
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA804)
Akasa Eclipse 62 Aluminium Case - No PSU

Basically, it's all working well, apart from the fact, whenever I install something the mouse lags a hell of a lot and it's really bugging me. Does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers!

You know, I think I'm having exactly the same problem with my new system too. I have a G7 mouse and every now and then the mouse will jump around and lag a lot, which it never did with my old system . I'll just assume it has some kind of issue with Windows Vista 64-bit... (and yes I have installed the latest drivers/software for my mouse)

don't mean to be condicending at all but just a few issues I've personally come across :)

- Try disabling speedstep / cool'n'quiet and see if it still does it
- drivers, not just mouse but chipset, gfx the lot (gfx drivers might appeared installed when you install vista but in fact it just uses carppy vga ones which can be laggy sometimes)
- what mode are your sata hard drives in? cant remember the names but one of them lagged me to foobar if windows had to rape the hard drive at all

and there was another one but i cant remember :( ill sit and have a think

And always, always, check for the crumb or hair that may be in the way of the optical eye.

It would be a rookie's mistake not to.

Don't be a rookie.

Could it be this, mine only seems to lag under some light pressure load (on the CPU), so I messed around with Affinity and it seemed to work, only problem is, whenever I install something it starts lagging again:S

Is the refresh rate of your screen set too high for it? Happenned to me back with my fx5200

I was just checking the insides of my system, and it turns out the Harddirve is IDE (Chunky cabling), and I can't believe I didn't notice it before!

Could this be the issue? Because I seem to get the lag whenever the Harddrive is busy. It's the master btw, as I only hve 1 drive! Also, I'm using my X800GTO2 for the time being, but I don't think that's the problem.

Thanks again for any help!

There is a known issue on MS knowledgebase, but using Logitech drivers it wont apply as it turns the factoring settings off in MS settings.

Look for this a box called "Enhance Pointer Precision" in your Control Panel MOUSE settings under "POINTER OPTIONS", it should be unchecked if your using your Mouses own drivers like Logitechs.

Tried that mate thanks though, still nothing, I'm thinking it's a hard drive issue, just waiting for some replies about that.

Basically, I've got a WD 500gb IDE hard drive, with no SATA-II. The only sata connection is the DVD-RW.

UPDATE

Turns out it was the SATA drivers causing all the problems! Finally sorted it, thanks fot the help guys!
