Jessops to go into administration ?

they should have worked it out a few years ago compared to online they are very expensive. shame to see them go if they do but if high street retailers wont go that extra mile more will go.

Posted similiar in the GD thread, I am strangely relieved because I bought my 400mm f2.8 IS II from them and was told it wasnt going to arrive until mid Jan but out of the blue it arrived on Christmas Eve direct from Canon NV!

I'd dread what to be feeling if it hadn't arrived yet...will miss out on a few hundred topcashback though :(

Administration or withdraw from the high street? They have a good network and loads of contracts that I'm sure could go into quite a competitive online business - up until now their online shop has been kept from being competitive by having to reflect their brick and mortar prices. Plus they've got loads of stock to shift, I'm sure.

I don't think its just prices and competitiveness, its also that people are likely now not buying cameras like they used to because most people have an acceptable one on their phones.

Get your store vouchers used!

We will all suffer eventually from high street stores closing. We won't be able to hold/try items & eventually online prices will increase. Very sad.

Nope!

It is in fact very possible that due to high end camera phones, people want cameras which can take better photographs.

The problem I've found is jessops are only keen to sell what's on special offer at the time.

A few months back my mum wanted a DSLR, so I figured I'd buy her one whilst I was at my parents, jessops the logical choice. The sales person just didn't understand we needed one with Live View, that lasted a while on battery. Kept firmly informing us that its not as good etc. My mum is diabetic and so finds her eyes change a lot, making the SLR viewfinder a bit useless some days. This sales person was unable to grasp that, and intent on trying to sell a nikon.

Too right, the high street is having a tough time of it at the moment. Just locally over the last months we've lost WoolWorths, Millets, Jessops, Comet. And everytime one goes up pops either a "pound shop" or another charity shop. Jessops going is a kicker it was always my bolt hole while the family did their thing..
