Jesus ****** half an hour!! Spyware related

Let my house mate use my computer, first and last time!! After years of internet use and not having any spyware etc I came home to find porn popups, secrutiy alerts from fake anti-spyware sites and shed loads of icons in my system tray

grrrrrrr he was only on for half an hour lol

Mate... it shouldn't matter if your mate is on 1/2 an hour or not... your computer isn't properly protected if it's fallen over in that short time.

Sorry for the response.

Just make sure you install the following (all free):

AVAST (NOD32 if you can afford it) - update and run every week
Ashampoo Firewall
Spyware Blaster - update and then immunise
Adaware - update and run every week
CCleaner - run every so often
SpyBot Search and Destroy - update and then immunise, also update and run every week

Also use firefox as your browser.

That way, your sorted whoever goes on your pc.

I'm sure he has all the required programes but probably doesn't have them all running (and why should he if he's usualy the only person that goes on the pc?), that's the case with me anyway :/

I had no antispyware, no av, no firewall it was in the process of being formatted for my parents use, so really no harm done, but was quite surprised to see how easy it was for someone to effectively render the xp install useless

Yeah man, all it takes is a short time browsing whateve site takes your fancy for your computer to be screwed... I see it daily.

I recommend restoring it the day before it happened, if you haven't already installed something that is really important! If you have just burn it on a disc.
