So what's the flavour of the decade in terms of job portals/aggregators nowadays? I mean last time I looked for work in the UK it was like 2001, and it was jobserve.

How do people find new senior IT work nowadays?

(not sure if this was an indirect swipe at the linkedin boss whose cloned himself with an AI version to answer subordinates questions ..
maybe they now fire the flesh & blood one)

By talking to people and networking - having an employee or a recruiter (who is tasked for the particular role) refer you is way better than any application. Or better still have the hiring manager themselves want to interview you or indeed create a new role for you.

Use your existing network, build it back up if you've let it slack (no harm in organising get togethers with old colleagues), on LinkedIn you should proactively add recruiters that others who've recently moved jobs are connected with, you should go to meetups/events/hackathons etc. (or enter competitions if applicable) and talk to people about what you're working on (whether at work or on the side), and online you can also put stuff out there on GitHub or on social media.

If you've got the skillset to be useful/highly employable then getting interviews/meetings with people about working with or for them is very straightforward - it just involves meeting/connecting with more people and getting your work seen.

If not then it just needs some attention to improve your current skillset and then the same - get connected, show your work, get people to want you on their team/in their company.

LinkedIn is the answer, it can be annoying, but it's where the jobs are. Focus your efforts on job ads from the actual company rather than recruiters.

LinkedIn is helpful but it's better if it's recruiters contacting you rather than you applying for jobs.

Indeed was good about 10 years ago if you curated your search terms well. More recently all my jobs have come via LinkedIn (got approached by recruiters for two of them and other one I saw a posting by a recruiter that looked promising).

I generally look for jobs which do not have a generic spec. A lot of the generic stuff used to be agencies trying to fill their books with candidates. Maybe it's different these days.
