Job in Reading

Horrible.

But there are loads of very nice areas surrounding Reading, and job prospects are good in Reading, so overall it is a good place to base yourself. (The company i work for is based in Reading, and i have lived around the area for most of my life).

Depends on what you like. I used to live in Caversham but now live on bath road near the central/west side of town.

I quite like it here as im into sport. Loads of IT companies around and its got a 'young' vibe. I quite like it here as im into sport so if your active there's loads to do within a relatively short distance. Next to no theatre or music concerts tho (except reading festival) which is a bit of a pain.

You just have to remember that Reading is only 30 miles from a mega city with 8 million people in....

what questions you have?

Well at least it's not in Bracknell. :D

Reading is OK, standard towny town though. Usual shops, bars, restaurants, pubs etc. Location wise you've got good rail links into London or to the west of England, and a fair amount to do of a weekend.

All depends on what the job is, how good the money is, and how much you think it's worth leaving where you are now to pursue it,

Personally I wouldn't live in Reading, I'd be out somewhere like Wokingham or Winnersh. Even further afield, there's plenty of ways to get into Reading that aren't M4 related.

I'd choose the further afield option tbh Wokingham is very expensive to live, I work in Wokingham and live in Farnborough because its cheaper to commute to than it is to live in Wokingham. I'd probably look more towards Crowthorne or Sandhurst, still have easy train links, easy enough to drive to Reading from and cheaper than Wokingham

Fair comment, Wokingham is a little pricier than the average but it is a nice area. That said you're right, Crowthorne isn't without it's charms either. :)

Living and working in and around reading is great, lots of big company's and options to move around without relocating miles. Also London isn't far away so great opportunity for future :D

Its a bit stabby on a Saturday night! Although Reading has plenty going on for work and entertainment, I wouldn't want to live there. Live out of town.

All pretty standard here really. Reading has a reputation, but that is from about 20 years ago.

No its not, Reading is a horrible soulless town, but also one which has very good amenities and good job prospects.

Ideally a better place to live in the area is up toward Henley-on-Thames, Binfield Heath, Sonning Common, Goring, Peppard, Shiplake, etc.

As others have said, it's got all you need but don't live there - live somewhere else and commute in. Do you know if the job will be near the station/within walking distance? Or is it more on the outskirts? If so, which side of Reading as it will probably also dictate where you'll want to end up living.

My office is in Reading and I rarely go there, but have been on a few nights out.

Luton is better and that's saying something.

It depends on where you are moving from if it's nice or not :p.

I've always thought it wasn't that bad to be honest.

Reading is okay, but I prefer living outside of it. It has a vast town centre with loads of shops. The Oracle has more shops and some nice bars and restaurants and a cinema. I have a penchant for a Browns Burger now and then. The centre is clean and busy. As with anywhere, going out at night is more lively. I never had any trouble back when I had a life.

Train links are good, the hospital is good, there are lots of leisure things to do. I've always thought of it as a mini London.

I live in sunny Wokingham, which is nicer. :)

I have to say, I have considered moving in a commutable distance of Reading as it would make life easier. I know a few colleagues who live in Wokingham and really do like it.

Tell me about it, my office is in Bracknell. So glad I don't have to go there every day as it's just depressing. Quite weird that it's such a dump as Wokingham is lovely and it's pretty much right next to Bracknell.

Reading itself isn't that bad but I wouldn't want to live there. Used to live in Basingstoke which, despite the abuse it gets, isn't actually a bad place at all these days and it's not that far away from Reading. But Reading isn't a total dump - Earley isn't too bad an area for example. Just like all towns it has its good and bad parts.

It's sometimes a bit weird like that in Berkshire, places like Bracknell, Slough and to some degree Reading which are a bit of a dump but then places like Henley, Windsor, Wokingham etc which are very nice/posh.
