Job Interview - Jessops

You don't need to know anything about photography to get the job. Went into jessops the other day enquiring about a lens hood and the sales guy was like: "Whats a lens hood?"
Seriously, how do they get the job?

On the otherhand though, they seem to be very knowledgeable in selling you a £50 filter that would cost me £15 on ebay.

However, if you do get the job, congratulations on your 20% staff discount.

I used to be a store manager for Jessops, for about 2 years. Honestly there is no set interview routine and each store is so variable in what the managers themselves even know let alone their staff. Being confident and friendly is the most important part to show the interviewer that you'll be able to approach customers and appreciate their needs.

My store was a lot more technical than most, only had 8 staff every one of them knew a fair amount about cameras and photography in general, much more than other stores that I've covered at....used to get pros driving past 3 other branches to come and see us when they wanted good advice! My store was definitely the exception though and not the norm.

Interview went well. Looks promising that i've got the job :)

Store manager wasn't too prepared, had to wait for interview questions to be printed off. After he'd spent 5 minutes looking for a usb mouse lol :p Ah well. He was a nice guy and if anything it calmed the nerves down a bit
