im current doing a IT helpdesk role and on 16k a year. Ive got a job interview later today but its a 50mile round trip everyday, allthough the pay is between 20k-23k

i currently drive about 25mile round trip a day for work that cost about £100 a month in fuel.

what you think ? should i go, push for the 23 aswell ?

the job sounds good, its got some new challenges that i would like to do but im skint and could do with a pay rise, my current place wont give me one.

what you think does the 4-7grand increase make up for fuel ? aswell as traffic etc ?

If it works out financially better for you then, yes. Sounds like you can't get any further in your current job so go for it

Go for it mate. Go for the 23K. You have absolutely nothing to lose apart from an afternoon, so no pressure at all!
Really push for the top of the bracket, you are worth it :)

so you would pay £200 a month for fuel so ud need at least £2400 pay rise to break even. Then youd have more time commuting. But it looks like youd be better off even starting on the lowest 20k and if your getting new challengers and that id seriously think about it.

forget the stats for now..

go to the interview, at least for the experience, and give yourself the opportunity to find out more and ask any questions you may have..

after all that, then decide whether the new job's worth it :)

It's double the distance, so he'd only end up spending an extra £1200/year on fuel.

If the commute isn't going to ruin your day, go for it.

Aim for the £23 but realise that this is for people who meet every single thing they want. Most of the time they do not hire people who start at the top of the wage band ;]

So base your thoughts on getting £20k and see if it is worth it. Also look for cheaper ways to travel, could be even more benficial taking that job.

Even if at best you break even, i presume its a step up so take it and keep on climbing that ladder :D

Go for it. If you can get the top of the pay-range, there is always the option of getting a more economical car as well?

Go for it, why not? You can still turn them down. Career progression will show up on your CV too, rather than being stuck in the same job for longer :)

If you don't go you'll never know how good it could have been. There's no pressure as you have a job, just see it as practise for interviews.

You should say that you are sure that they can come to an agreeable amount given the wage band and your experience.
If they want specifics then say you want to earn the top end of the scale.

Go to the interview and if they offer you the job ask for more money. You have nothing to loose and it's impossible to say if the jobs worth taking unless you go to the interview. It may be a much better company with more opportunities etc.
