Hey

Have an interview tomorrow for an ICT Tech...
I was told i had an interview TODAY! I am at work till 7PM aswell ARGH

They have asked me to assess the VLE and do a 5 min presentation on how i would improve upon it.

I'm stumped as in my eyes its one of the best VLE's in schools i have seen so far, much better than what i used at uni as well!

There is a second task that i could pick and that is to simply assess the main sites navigation and again a 5 min presentation on how it can be improved. For this one i know what i would do as its lacking some aspects Ofsted ask for in a school website, problem is it feels too easy...?

What would you guys do in this situation? I want to do the second, But i don't feel i would have anything to offer in the way of improvements that would last longer than 2 mins, I'm not a designer :/

There are very few things in the world that can not be improved upon. Remember, they are not asking you to explain how it would be improved but rather how it could be improved.

Indeed you are correct. Although I'm struggling to come up with things that could be improved within their VLE :(
I think i will take a look at the Mobile version of their VLE. See if that could be improved.

Edit: Scrap that, the mobile version is great :(

for those that don't work in education (VLE - Virtual Learning Environment).

Things I would look for:

BYOD - Students using iphone, ipad, android, windows, macs etc etc

Make sure whatever system they have works on said platform and is easy to navigate, plus is a secure system. Post the link if you can and I'll have a look to see if I can find any improvements.

Have a look on google and youtube at competitor VLEs and try and spot a feature or two which is missing, things like forums/question answer areas, resource embedding and online grade vaults might be a good start.

From a Google it means
Visual learning environment

Thus you could talk about improving user interface, compatibility (eg with laptops/ipads or whatever)
Good integration with home use

Etc... 5 minutes isn't long!

Just make sure you sound like you know what you're talking about (and also that you're dressed well!)

Hey all.

Thanks for the advice to all peeps who gave it.

Had the interview this morning, and i got the job.

I am very pleased, although they have made it so i would only be paid for term time (39 weeks) but that's not the end of the world as i can always find something to do in the holidays. (phone repairs yo!)

Turns out there was 6 people, each of them picked task one.
I was the only one who picked task two (VLE).
The jobs main role is to take on the VLE and improve it ;)

Nice one!

Was too late to add my comments about the VLE, but looks like you choosing to discuss it was simply sufficient for them to get the right person for what they were after :)
