Hi guys, finally! Managed to get an interview for a job, now it's not in the area that i'm good at -film/music but the guy is giving me a chance, he just rang me and gave me a phone interview, i was very nervous as i didn't have any real good responses, and he appreciated that i was honest. He told me to sum up why he should give me an interview over other clients who have experience etc, i said that i am a quick learner, i feel i'd fit in an office environment and im a good judge of character, it was very wishy washy response, he even said it as my answers were, i was silly nervous!

But yeah, when i actually go in for the interview, any tips for recruitment consultants? It's a massive firm not some small one! I said i'm young and all jobs i've previously had i've done very well etc.

Argh, i will be silly happy if i can manage to get a job (Even if it's not in music/film)

Try and put your previous experience into answers. Not just 'I am responsible', but 'Well I am responsible as proved by A,B, and C that I have done'.

Set aside your nerves by thinking it as a 2-way process. You are also not sure you want the job, you're just going to have a conversation with some bloke to see BOTH WAYS if you fit the bill for some work he has.

In fact the way I get passed nerves is to try and actually not care at all what happens (to an extent) just go with the flow. And that got the through being a contestant on dragons den which I guess should have been scary. Remember if you don't care much, you're absolutely unbeatable whatever happens! ...

The job advertised is Juniour Recruitment Consultant.

He said to research their Outsources which some are IBM, HP, Fujitsu, so can anyone help me with this please?

What did you go on Dragons Den for britboy? Would be interested in seeing your pitch.

You need help researching? And you want to be a recruitment consultant?

And yes, messed it all up. Still, a story to tell me mates down the pub! :) Put £120,000 of my own hard earned money into the product which was quite a lot considering ... should have bought that ferrari instead ;)

I could tell you some stories (heaters facing me, they had air conditioning units. Over 3 hours filmed. Directors telling me what to do/say. Basically, its TV!)

You need to think of the key things that make a good recruitment consultant. Key buzzwords here would be: tenacious, great and building business relationships, highly professional, thinking outside the box.

Not all might agree, and people might add in things that would be all starred out, but they want people that can sell, build client relationships and work to tough deadlines. Working well under pressure would be another good one and motivated by targets and goals.

Use your previous life experiences to give examples, even just real life day to day of how it relates to the above points as they want to see how you would react in real life and how you can show you are like this.

That should help.

(I used to be in recruitment and headhunting for about 5yrs)

Nerves are an advantage. This may sound silly but the adrenaline released whilst in an interview makes you think and act much better on the spot. You just need to embrace the nerves feel the flow of the adrenaline and be amazed at some of the stuff that comes out of your mouth.

Obviously the more interviews you do the more relaxed you become but I don't think this is a good thing, enjoy it whilst it lasts.

It'll be 95% commission based with no perks.

What do you actually want from a job?

I'm in search for a job to fuel my ambition to go to america and do music/film.

Applying for all kinds of jobs at the moment to get a steady income for a year to leave next year hopefully or just after.

well don't tell THEM that. 'Leaving after a year'? They'll think 'no point training him / no point having him .. he's a quitter'.

(Still do it .. but don't tell them you're going to do it!)

Oh of course i didn't tell them!

I said to him that i'm looking to increase my career prospects as i'm not 100% what i want to do and he said he appreciated my honesty.

Well, i'm not having any other luck with any other job i've applied for so far, studios are barely recruiting at all at the moment, and i need income.

I think i would stay for atleast 2 years anyways.

Okay, this kinda applies to me.

My girlfriend recently had an interview for a very professional large recruitment company based close to St Paul's/Farringdon.

She had, in total, 5 or 6 stages. The first was a phone interview, then an interview with one of the managers, then another interview with a series of tests, then an interview with the director and other top company members and finally a trial day. After all that, they turned her down because she didn't have enough experience. :o

She mentioned how stressful the interview/trial day was and decided it wasn't for her. So, if you are a "gift of the gab" kinda person, you'll breeze through it. But her advice is targets mean everything. So ensure you get your targets and she'll be fine. I wish she had of got that job...22 and starting on £25k would have been good. :p

Thanks for that SideWinder, i'm just hoping my nerves don't take over, i mentioned that my couson is a top head hunter for another massive IT firm and i was interested into his job.

Hopefully me being 20 is an advantage, and i hope i can tell them that me being young means i can learn a lot :)
