Job - Pay Accuracy..

That's why I didn't go in there with that attitude.

I simply said that after looking on XXX site I found this, and i just want to make sure I'm being paid accordingly due to being told my wage is based on the london rate for insurers employees.

Well done on the calm negotiations. However, if I was your boss I'd still tell you to put up or shut up! :D :p

With that kind of attitude I hope you don't manage that many people to be honest. It won't make you very popular with employees!

You should have got him really angry - then he could have been fired and you could take his job!

In my current job I don't manage anybody only processes. However, I did manage people in my previous job and I don't care if I wasn't popular. Managing people is about getting work done not winning popularity contests.

Plus as PeterNem says if productivity goes up then I look good in my bosses eyes!

Agreed, managing people is about getting work done, but when the overall moral is crap because you tell your employees to like it or lump it the productivity could go down very quickly :). I've seen it happen, do you not agree?

Won't have much productivity if your staff leave because they hate you :p

My question is, how accurate is - http://www.itjobswatch.co.uk/

In my experience, itjobswatch over-estimates salary. I've looked at a few jobs in my sector for my county, and the pay is significantly higher than what I see advertised (I suspect it is taking the top figure of advertised ranges/bands).

I'm earning roughly £10k below what the rates are on that site for my job in my county. Now, while it is true that I am underpaid, even so, I'd say a typical job probably pays around £3-5k less than the figure on itjobswatch.

That site is scarily close to my actual basic salary for my job, although obviously doesn't take into account all the extras :)

Sure. I did have a human side and could have a laugh and let my team have a laugh when the work load was low, but they knew not to mistake that for weakness. They knew they had to get stuff done when need be.

Sure, if they don't like it they can leave but I was at least fair, just very firm.

If everyone hates you it's not good, if you try and be Mr Popular it's not good, need to find a balance. Why polarise everything?

Yes, to some extent, however as a manager getting results mean that sometimes you have to lean more towards being a git rather than their friends.
