Joe Danger (PSN)

Few comments lifted from the Digital Fix (Ex DVDforums) thread:

"Hmmm, looks great & is kinda fun but i'm not feeling it yet. Too many fiddly controls combined with a crazy scoring system that I haven't fathomed out at all.

So far, apart from the charm-factor of the Nintendo-style graphics, Trials HD is vastly superior in every other area."

"Does anyone else find they could have mapped the buttons a bit better? I'm struggling a bit with the controls. "

"Can't really argue with that assessment Tony. But it isn't really Trials HD and those hoping it would be will end up being even more disappointed. But viewed as a fun game made by a development team of only 4 people it is still a very good game and an achievement in that respect.

It isn't really Trials HD though: take for example the more forgiving controls compared to the necessity of mastering the controls in Trials HD; the emphasis on being a dare deveil instead of negotiating a difficult course in Trials HD; the almost platforming-like aspects of it sometimes with the way you can change direction and travel backwards fast with the L2 button and the game wants you to stay on your bike. "

it looks really good , and the reviews i have seen say its worth the cash and some are even saying best psn game .
im sitting on the fence with it till i see someone playing it and ask them what they think .
Heres a review ;)

I bought it earlier, played for 30 mins or so, quite fun, split screen is great. Will try online later. Back to split/second for me atm though!

I've been playing it and it's really enjoyable :) I would probably put it in my top 5 PSN games at the moment: Joe Danger, Super Stardust HD, Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Soldner-X 2 & ?????.

Never played this Trials HD (XBLA) that it is being compared to. There used to a Nintendo (maybe NES) game that I played when I was younger, which it reminded me of.

Still in 2 minds.....

It's a good game and you can compare your scores with your friends and the rest of the world but you cannot race them which is a shame. As mentioned there is a split screen option though.

I would describe it as a cartoon and more forgiving version of Trials (which i have on the PC)

Good quality feel to it with a level editor too. I am normally the first one to moan at what i wasted my money on but this one is worth a tenner.

It is indeed a good giggle and well worth the money.
(I have a weird formula in my head that says I need 1hr of entertainment from every £1 I spend on a game, and it looks like it will entirely surpass that :D)

Crying shame there's no online tho :(

It actually reminds me a lot of Kickstart2 on the Commodore16.... oh yeah.... retro baby !!

This game is like crack soooo addictive, I can see what they mean by the Nintendo feel simple fun addictive!

Tempted.

Nearly hit the buy button earlier, one thing though. Does it actualy play like a bike game, or more like a platformer.

From the videos iv'e seen on youtube it's hard to decide on which without playing it.

Im sold on the bike game, not realy wanting another platform game... days of old with kickstart and codemasters moto/atv sims bring back the good times.

It's a very arcadey type of game, less of a sim more of a platformer I think :) There's a patch being worked on too (see the developer comments in here). The possibility of a demo is hinted at I wouldn't expect it for a while yet (unless the patch is out really quickly!!):

Replays and youtube support is something we’re already working on now. How I wish we had had time to do that before release, but hopefully we’ll be able to patch it in.

We think demos are important, especially for a £9.99 game, so we’d love to do one.

We’re going to put together a patch right now, and then start looking at a making a demo.

It might take us a little while. In the meantime we’re planning to release as many videos and as much information, as we can, to help people decide.

Just bought this.

Initial impressions are it is pretty addictive and worth the tenner it costs.

Few questions:

1) Did anyone notice some skipping in the 1st or 2nd career level (I forget which one it was)?

2) Anyone know how the scoring system works exactly(some of the scores on my friends list are ridiculously high!!). Is time taken to complete the race an important factor or should I work on combos to increase my score?

3) Anyone created any levels they can send me (dunno how this works exactly but I know you can share levels)

Edit: added a few names to my Friends list, to compare scores.

I want this game put was put off slightly by the £10 price tag and thought it should probably have been about £7.99 if it doesn't have online multiplayer.

Having said that I bought TrialsHD in the steam sale for £2 which i could have put towards Joe Danger so I suppose the curent price is fair enough.

Think i'll pick this up next time i need a PSN game or maybe wait till it's in the discount section.

If its anything like Excite Bike I will love it. Been loving Trials recently aswell. £10 isnt too much for a download/indie game.

1) Nope. Not me.

2) COMBOS COMBOS COMBOS !!!! Holding a 3 button press combo will make your points go higher faster than holding a basic 1 button combo. Always spin in the air while striking a pose too. Once you master all this, you'll be scoring in the high tens/hundereds of millions in no time.
Add me.... FlightTribe !!

3) I have a crap one. Probably not worth looking at but I'll send it you if you add me. Send me one too... I need the trophy for "playing someone elses level"

Cheers, after some trial and error time doesn't seem to play much, if any factor in scoring high. Got 10's of millions on some levels by just going for combos and ignoring stars/times etc.

Is your username "FlightTribe"?

Basically, go as slow or fast as you need to in order to get all the challenge stars for that particular level. Then go back and replay it to get the stars you missed since you don't have to get them all on one go.... THEN once all challenge stars are got, I like to go for MAHOOSIVE COMBOS !!!! :D

And yes, it's FlightTribe !!

Played your level and also designed my 1st one. I ran out of pieces I could use very quickly, so it is quite basic, but give it a try anyway.

This game is ridiculously addictive!.
