Has anyone used John Lewis' TV installation service? Would you recommend it? I'm planning to buy the LG OLED soon and since I live on my own, I could do with help installing the stand and actually getting it onto my TV cabinet! I'm not too bother about actually connecting it up to my devices tbh as I could do that myself.

I noticed this earlier whilst having a browse.
I suppose they'd do the job but it doesn't look cheap for what it actually is.
Maybe a local handyman or similar would do the job at half the price.
Or Richer Sounds do a similar service and their price match etc for the TV may mean you could get it all through them.

If it's the same style as our LG at work,it's only 4 screws that attaches stand to the TV, also not heavy at all and easily manageable to lift it 2ft on your own.

What do they charge? Not something ridiculous like £60 is it?

Yeah, I imagine it would be cheaper if I paid someone else though part of it is convenience.

I am considering Richer Sounds though I'm swaying towards John Lewis because I can select a Saturday/evening delivery.

I'm more concerned about damaging the screen than the weight tbh.

£45.

Just had Sony 65 oled, sound bar and headphones delivered and “installed “ by John Lewis. They charged me £47. The tv is too heavy to do on your own, so help is needed for assembly. That said, technically JL were no use to me as a technical novice. They put the headphone output pin into the input port in the sound bar. They installed the optical cable loosely so it didn’t work properly. They didn’t sort out the sound sync issue. They didn’t tell me that about oled 4K needing a high power hdmi. They didn’t check the broadband connection being adequate for uhd. So as a complete non techie I have spent a week enormously frustrated. I just wanted to buy a tv and watch it. Much better to get someone to install it who knows about the issues related to uhd than just someone who can put a stand on.

could go and handle one in John lewis to evaluate capability to lift/manouver it
- biggest problem is usually where you can safely lift it, and protecting screen during 'assembly'

£45 on a £1000 TV just for piece of mind? Id go for it if I was unable to get someone to help lift the bloody thing. They may not be that heavy but they are awkward. I tried to lift my 50in once and then decided to wait for someone to help. Its not so much the lifting it is the positioning while possibly stooping over as well. Hell as I like to keep boxes for what seems like forever just getting it out the box is going to be a pain.

To be fair, for £45 I wouldn't expect too much. Building the stand and putting the TV on it; yes. Checking Broadband speeds... nah. Even if they did a speed test, what can they do if it isn't fast enough? It's not like they have a hotline to your ISP. If it's wireless, again, there's not much they can do about that either.

Yes, I would expect them to be able to plug in an Optical cable correctly, but sometimes these can be tricky. Getting the headphone connection wrong is a silly error. The thing is though, my guess is that these guys aren't trained and equipped AV installers. They're van drivers and furniture movers in the main.

£45 for two(?) guy's wages, insurance, a vehicle plus running costs, and an hour on site maybe? It's not much when you break it down and figure that there are employment costs to come out of it too.

If you don't know anyone that can help, I'd pay the £45.

Getting it out of the box will be surprisingly difficult! I carried a 58" around getting it up on the TV stand etc by myself. It's not so much the weight, but the size makes it awkward. It's doable, but as someone said for the sake of £45 on a £1000 TV...

Even if they literally only took it out and put it in the right place, I would.

Lay the box flat on the floor with the screen facing up and slide it out along the floor, simple, even push it out from bottom. Dont tell me you are trying to take it out vertically ?? ;)

Rotate it round on its edge so its upside down lean against sofa with protective cover still on. Fix stand. Slide it over carpet on its edge to TV stand rotate round on the way so stand is at bottom, lift up using right hand on right side and left hand on bottom. If you are careful its easy. Done it with 3 large screen TV's no problem. (45", 49", 50")

The 55" OLED is awkward to handle but I managed it myself. When you lift it, take all of the weight on one hand grasped around the bottom middle (where the physical power button is) and use your other hand at the top just to balance it. You won't smudge the screen if the protective layer is still on.

The only thing to avoid (other than dropping and smashing it) is lifting it by the panel instead of getting a grip on the back unit.

Hung both my 65”KS9000 and my 55”KS7000 on wall brackets on my own. It’s very doable if you are confident and know what you are doing.
