John Titor.

Actually as far as his stories go... he "inserted" himself into our timeline - at which point the knock on effect could change events entirely - he also claimed to have joined a timeline slightly different to his own, so again taking those 2 factors into consideration anything he said that might happen in our future could be well off...

Unfortunatly tho some of the stuff he said just wouldn't make sense at a military level in any universe with a roughly similiar timeline to our own - it was very much the kinda content of someone who has "played" soldier without any real experience.

Time travel surely can't be possible or we would have sent someone back to this year. (does that make sense - it does to me)

Why this year, he was sent back to a time where he needed a computer that could do a certain job, nothing happens this year to make him come back.

The C204 begins to "break away" at about 60 years. This means the level of confidence drops rapidly after 60 years of travel and the worldline divergence increases. In other words, if I wanted to go back 2000 years and meet Christ, there is a better than average chance I would end up on a worldline where he was never born.

One of the best cyberlegends created. In it's current state (copy of a copy of a copy) it lacks the effect of the original setup, but the original flow was very interesting. The story puzzled a lot of people, and when the traveller started posting pictures and scans of the manuals of his equipment and people couldn't figure out what they were of the suspense was applause deserving. If it wasn't for questionable copyrights situation the whole thing deserves good fiction book and possibly even screen play.

Or, it's only possible to travel backwards in time, and then only to the exact time that the first real 'time-machine' was switched on!

Time travel would only be possible from the moment the first time machine was switched on though, not before so at present time travel is not possible but when the technology to build one exists and a machine is built future visitors would only be able to travel back to the point the machine was turned on.

So there you have it.
Can't remember who's theory they are quoting in the above comments - it's a fairly recent one I think.
Anyone have any references??

If you considered, even for a second, that is was real, you probably look like this:
