JoikuSpot and networks..

I found Joiku very patchy and pretty poor compared to walking hotspot. Try that:) Im on WnW and works v well.

Walking Hotspot is a lot more reliable I find. JoikuSpot only worked once for me and after numerous attempts it won't connect.

The only difference between the two apps is that JoikuSpot has some form of security on it namely WEP which WH doesn't but i'm not all that fussed tbh.

For those that want to check out WH, get it from here:

I got a little careless and purchased JoikuSpot without trying it first (it's not expensive bit still... kinda dumb).

Anyone used this more extensively? Does your phone get hot when using it?

What are the other ones like (the "Walking" one for example)? Do they heat the phone too? Do they only work in ad hoc mode like Joiku does... suppose this might be a limitation of the wlan interface on the phone though.

(The WalkingHotSpot website is down ...)

I'm using a Nokia E71 by the way.

Cheers

I tested then bought JoikuSpot, never had any problems with it. I did find it made my n95 phone quite hot but I expect that is a by product of heavy work it is doing.

I have also found it very reliable and worked just fine with T-Mob WnW.

Ok thanks for the feedback. I was a little surprised how hot my phone got, so was eager to know if that's completely normal.

It's worked well for me so far as well.

I'm thinking though that it's probably better for more brief sessions. In fact it's very convenient for that. While at a remote location, if you suddenly want to check a few things, mail, forums (but via the laptop), then it's a very quick way to get your lappy connected with no fuss.

For longer sessions I think connecting via the PC Suite modem feature would be better... can't be too good for the battery to discharge at such a high rate (I know that batteries degrade from very high heat).

Btw, I read that it's because of a current limitation in Symbian that it has to operate in ad hoc mode. But supposedly that will change.
