Currently considering joining the navy next year and looking to go into marine engineering.

Either on a ship or as a submariner. Are there any current Navy ratings on here at the moment or anyone thats been in the navy recently.

Whats your thoughts on life in the navy as it is nowadays. It seems to be quite a good future for the navy with the new Type 45's coming into service and the new submarines being built for 2008 and onwards.

Cheers :)

Stop all the infantile comments please, this was a serious question about someone's future career.

As an ex-navy geezer myself, unless things have changed a lot in the last twenty years, you'll have some great times in some great places all over the world and get paid for the privilege, whilst idiots like me are trudging into the office by dreary tube every morning. ;)

In the Navy

Beat me to it :(

I can't help with the Navy sorry, but my dad was in the Army for 22 years and my Uncle is still in the RAF (16 years so far). Both insist the forces isn't a good career to have IF you have a wife or plan to settle down with someone. They accomodate it fine obviously, but they said it really isn't a good thing to be doing.

Obviously as a random strange guy on a forum I'm not going to hold any sway over any decision you make, I just thought I'd make you aware that many people in the forces wouldn't recommend joining.

Have fun either way :)
