Joint Mortgages

My bank is only offering me a mortgage of 45K - if I do it as a joint mortgage with the wifey - will they bump this up?

Depends if your wife is earning i would have thought. They base it on the income of either you or both of you if joint.

yes , often it is in the region of 3-4 times a single income or 2.5x your combined

They should do.

I was able to get a decent mortgage alone but the interest and tie-ins were quite horrendous. So I got a joint mortgage with my partner and not only could we get a little more money but the interest etc was better
