I'm sure Skye will be very happy with his appointment. Very good choice, I think Villa have missed out on him here.

Fulham Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Maarten Jol as its new manager.

Maarten joins Fulham on an initial two year contract with the Club having an option to extend for a further year. He will arrive at our Motspur Park training ground in advance of the players return to training later this month.

Last night Maarten Jol said: ‘I am very happy to join Fulham Football Club, a wonderful traditional club. It is a club with good, solid foundations and a great fan base. I am looking forward to being part of the Fulham family and thank the Chairman for the trust he’s shown in me.’

But Villa fans want Hughes according to them all phoning Talksport this morning, because:

One idiot from Talksport said:
We need someone like Hughes because hes British innit, so that means he understands the game properly and knows how to control players.. just look at those foreigners, show me one foreigner who's successful managing in the PL? they just cant do it..

Wasn't Jol's fitness regime little next to nothing? I'm sure when Ramos took over at Spurs, I recall him reporting problems with player fitness (or lack of) whilst under Jol's management.

He's had a decent, if not spectacular career in management. He could do well at Fulham.
More than decent to be fair, Tottenham and Ajax did wonderful things on the field with him in charge. Very good acquisition for Fulham, may even be a step up from Hughes.

Yeah and look at how well Ramos did:D

:o

Embarrassingly probably the worst mistake Levy made but i think Jol is a decent enough manager.. I thought he had a good aptitude and knowledge of the game. After all, he saw something in Bale ;) His success at Fulham, like any other club, depends largely on what resource he has.

Spurs conceded a lot of late goals when he was in charge. The same thing happened at Hamburg.

Still, I'm so happy to see him back in the Premier League. He's such a likable character and will encourage attractive football.

Hopefully he'll also buy a few of Spurs' unwanted fringe players too. :p

I meant in terms of achievements, rather than quality of football. So far he seems to have managed to come close but just miss out a few times now (5th places for Spurs, 2nd with Ajaz).

As long as Fulham stay away from the lasagne, I'm sure they will do well.

I really liked Jol it's good to have him back in the Premiership, makes up for losing Holloway. :p

Great appointment imo, he'll attract much better players/prospects. He's probably been given upto £20-25m depending on selling players too.

At least we should see some attacking football and goals, he had a 3 goal/game record or something stupid at Ajax!

Edit: finally a manager who actually WANTS to manage us too.

When he was at Spurs, I can't remember a single game that ended 0-0 so it'll bring entertainment at any cost, that you can rely on. That's why we loved him.

Yeah, and hopefully because we have such an organized defence it might help us stop leaking the goals he used to. Saying that, sounds like three of our four fullbacks are going.
