Jonathan Creek - The Grinning Man

When they thoroughly checked the room, how could they have not checked if the bath was solid? Also surely a wet bath would have given a pretty big clue.

Pfft, CSI is better and has less gaping plotholes. If this was the standard of the episodes I watched years ago, I'm amazed I didn't get bored.

The old woman chose to save it from the housefire, rather than her husband (I think?)

Something like that I missed a lot of it.

Not her husband, just some old geezer I thought.

I seem to remember that she was mumbling on about how the seeds of evil were already in her son before hand, due to her decission or something.

You sure that's not because of the slight nipple slip (I think, was hard to tell) when she falls through into the tank of water? :p

/opens recorded MPG file and steps through frame-by-frame

You saw much more than that :D

Very very poor episode. If that is the calibre of writing now I'm glad they are not going to bring it back. Another dissapointing special this christmas. Next year I'm just going to ban TV from this house

I thoroughly enjoyed the episode myself, reminded me a lot of watching it every Saturday night :) (or did it used to be on on a Friday?).

It wasn't a *bad* episode, but as mentioned previously in the thread, there questions left unanswered....

- Why didn't we see the resulting action with the other 7/8 bodies found?
- What happened to the body of the murdered girl?

...sort of things i was expecting JC to show/explain to the Police!

was this defiantly just a one off? No chance of it returning for a series?
In an interview I read (can't find it now!) David Renwick has said he's not ruling it out - he was going to see what the reaction was to this - but he quite wants to retire... and Jonathan Creek is a bloody hard thing to write, as it involves coming up with impossible situations with a simple explanation.

I might be wrong, but wasn't it the anti-semitic 'evil' dad of the old woman?
You are wrong. :p

The anti-semitic guy was killed by her father in the bath. Her father died in a car crash later the same year.

She told Creek she was staying in a house and it must have been an old relative of the family.

Close, but I'm fairly sure her father was the anti-Semitic Latin lover (felix dies, and coffin enscription) who killed the Jew 'Eli Menkin'

Good episode imo, not as good as the best but better than the worst. Was a lovely surprise when 5 mins before it aired I found my beloved Jonathan Creek was returning  Hope they consider another series or some more one-offs.

I enjoyed it but the thing that spoiled the plot was at the start the bathroom was clearly filthy and so was the bath itself. No-one, especially a girl is going to bathe in that before it was scrubbed from top to bottom.

Also, as already said the reactions to a vat of dead bodies was surprisingly meh.
