LeeC, do you have a project in mind, or do you just like chatting about CMSs? If it's just chatting surely it would would be more fun to pop into GD and nuke large quanities of fail from orbit using mustard and ovary punches.

I used to program Joomla components.
Joomla is actually very nice if you learn how to use it properly and make components for it.

I use drupal to gather resources for a group of trainee science teachers and it's working great. The update system & frequency is a bit annoying/nervy at times though.
