Joys of owning own Business

Running your own business is never easy. This is life. The rewards far outweigh the disadvantages.

This. My baby boy is due in May. Last Aug I went into business so I won't be getting the 6 months off owed me if I hadn't left my old firm.

this kinda of crap is what is preventing me from making the leap from freelancer to company. I'm neck deep with client work and have considered tasking on staff and hiring others to work for me. But these sorts of issues scare the crap out of me.

build up a network of people you can trust and sub the work out - I wouldnt "employ" anyone until it was really needed and then I'd have a backup plan in place just in case

If she doesn't come back and fulfill her months notice, get in a contractor and bill her for the extra costs.

Did she turn up today?

Employ contractors?

sorry for the delay.
Still no contact from her. We have sent out 2 different letters devised by the employment lawyer, as due to her to NOT informing us that she has left she is still classed as an employee so has to be disciplined and then dismissed. We have not had any response from the letters, one of which was requesting her to attend a meeting to discuss why she hasn't arrived at work.
We are now waiting for the lawyer to come up with a dismissal letter.
Its ridiculous though, 2 weeks and shes still classed as an employee...thank goodness its half term because we have less children in the nursery during holidays!

had a guy i used to work with do this.

He got a new job assumed his notice period was one month when it was infact three months.

After the one month he just didn't turn up no contact no nothing left people in the lurch.

no courtesy for fellow employees is the main thing that annoys me.
