Hi,

I'm looking at buying a joystick, I play a few flight sims, and the main reason I don't play more is because I don't have a joystick, the reason I don't have a joystick . . . didn't have enough sims to warrant one . . . you see the catch 22!

However, I finally found X3 and as my first introduction to space sims was Tachyon: The Fringe (lets see if anyone remembers that!) with a joystick, I have trouble with X3 without one. So I figured it was time to bite the bullet and pick one up.

However, it's been a while, and the last one I used was a Sidewinder (I forget which model, no force feedback, I think it was a fairly basic one) and I have next to no clue about the joysticks of today.

I've been searching around, and the Saitek Cyborg X seems like a good choice, but I figured I would get peoples opinions before I took a plunge I might regret. So, what are peoples opinions of the Cyborg X, and would anyone suggest a different joystick over it?

Thanks ;)

I orderd a cyborg x today. wont be here for like 5 days tho. Youll find it hard to find any feedback on it though i couldn'ty find a single review. Ill let you know when i get one if you still lookin bout as ive had quite a few in the past.

Ta, I'm also considering the X52/X52 Pro, but it's somewhat more expensive, and the sheer amount of buttons are frightening me a little :P But if there is anyone out there with one, what do you think of it

I have the Saitek X-52 and to be honest, I don't use half the buttons on it. If you don't plan on using all the programable options on it, you might be better off purchasing something cheaper that doesn't have all the bells & whistles. But it is a very nice stick.

Well, having looked around at the X2 Pro, I am much more tempted by it, if only because there are reviews of it. And because I do want to get into the flight sims more. However, there's still a week or so before I'll be buying, so any more suggestions etc. fire away.

My cyborg came early and i have it today. Im just trying to put it together it comes in kit form because you can style it to fit your hand. Very impressed so far but im now trying to find the "securing screw" for putting the stick onto the base haha :P

Ill let you know how it all goes later today.

I've had a look at the CH products, and personally, they look somewhat . . . lacking to me. I don't know whether it's the number of buttons, and I am looking to be able to access nearly everything from the control. Hence why I'm starting to look quite seriously at the X-52 Pro.

I'm not certain about the older Saitek joysticks, but having the deadzones able to be calibrated is a good feature. Also, having used the SST program before now, I like the macro and advanced command features, though they take some getting used to. Still interested in the Cyborg X though, due to its physical flexibility and the double throttle.

Speaking of the double throttle, anyone know any games where it is useful?

Ive played aroun with it a bit. Not enough to give a indepth review or antything.

But ill point out a few things. The physical flexibility is good. the ability to change the hieght of the stick and being able to tilt it is a big thing for me. The placement of the buttons i didn't find useful or very effective.

The overall feel of the joystick is very good in comparison to other sticks i ahve used. I have no doubt the x52 would be any differnt. There is a good feeling of resistance to using it but it is not something you fight against, its a smooth resistance if that makes sence. Especialy noticeable on the throttle.

I beleive another common thing to the x52 would be that the stick has a lot of room to move. By that i mean there is more distance for it to travel then other joysticks i have used before. This allows for being able to be more accurate with manoovers, although im not used to it and have to practice somewhat with the extra travel.

Personaly i find the Z rotation rotates a bit to far, this may not be a problem for others and i ahev no doubt after a bit of practice it will seem normal to me. But due to previous sticks ive used where you only had to twist the stick a little to max the Z rotation this is a big difference for me. However once again no doubt it will allow me to be more prescise with my movements. This is also likely to be on the x52 but i tjhink its just me so dont be put off by this.

I am somewhat shocked at their design of the base. It appears tehy have gone for asthetics over practicality. It is not as stable as it should be. Pushing forward too hard will cause it to rock. I find this to be a rediculas thing and they should ahve designed it better as there is no weight in the bottem. Its incredibly light and when holding feels like it weighs almost nothing in comparison to other joysticks.

however this isn;'t a huge draw back as by putting a bit of downward force on the stick while using it ensure it doesn't move anywhere i have found. But it is a problem taht should never be pressent in a joystick.

This is quite likely to not be a problem on the x52 but i cant garrantee that so i would check it out.

Overall however i am very pleased with the joystick. Its sensitivity i find just right and find it to be very accurate and precise. It feels like it has been made to a high standard when using it dispite the fact it weighs nothing and therefore is not as stable as it should be.

The button placement is very good i have found though the two buttons underneith where the thrust is i find i accidently hit sometimes. Thats something ill just learn not to do and may just be me.

The double throttle is also very well done, you are able to join them with the push of a single button and it feels to have been made very well. One of the main things im impressive with on the stick. You would be able to use the two throttles in sim games where you can control the engines seperatly.

Id say im very pleased with my purchase :) But i would imagin the x52 to be a better stick, but at the extra cost im not convinced its nessary. But you may ultimately preffer it enough to warrent that cost.

:edit:

Sorry for the crap spelling im one of the worlds worst and dont have the time to go through it.

Very nice review there, thanks :) And don't worry about the spelling, I'm pretty good at deciphering things like that :p

Just out of interest, what games are you using the joystick with?
