Machine has stoped viewing JPegs in windows picture and fax viewer, anyone any ideas? The picture and fax viewer used to work, now it just wont load :(

I used to find it a really useful little program for previewing

Does something load instead, like Paint shop pro etc?

if so you want to right click on a jpeg file and click either open if there is not other options coming off it. If there is go into the open part and go down to open with..., choose Windows pic and fax viewer and make sure the option at the bottom saying something like "open with this program every time" is ticked. Then open the file. From there on jpegs should always open in WPAFV. :)

(may be a bit vague ut I havent used XP for a while) :o

In Windows Explorer:

Tools > Folder Options > File Types

Find Jpeg in the list and click the Open With button and then change to Windows Fax Blah Blah.

I think thats how its done, not had to do it in ages.

yeah this is how you do it, if the open with the first poster described isn't there.

I'm sure it is, although I could be wrong as I haven't used XP in a few months.

FastStone Image Editor is an excellent (free) alternative if you want to try something else that's similar. Works on all manor of files (such as PSD) too.

Comes with a basic image editor, hence the name, but by default the files open in a preview (full screen if you wish). Use the cursors to scroll through the images.

Thanks everyone, sorry for the slow reply - back at work - have tried all and it still wont open them - just nothing happens. I think the Picture and Fax viewer is corrupted - is there anyway to re-install? Cant find it in add new windows components

Any ideas?
