Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

Have to mirror what others have said, why make it as jumanji? Really dislike Hollywood just milking a name, total recall remake was just shocking for example and nothing to do with the original. Just seems lazy and sets all kind of alarm bells off. If a film can't stand up on its own merit why bother making it in the first place?

Ps. I dislike the rock/hart and absolutely hate jack black.

A slightly longer "extended" trailer (a few new scenes of Karen Gillan & the Rock being badass etc)

I'm treating this as a completely different film to the original, so this is just a new movie with name similar to a classic, which makes it passable based on the trailer so far.

I could understand if these remakes were all making buckets of money as well as being critically acclaimed for being better than the originals yet I can't think of any, bar the Nolan Batman films (which were more reboot than remake), that have done "better" than the originals in any meaningful way. Yet "something" must keep Hollywierd making these movies, I just don't know what!

You're making the assumption that movie studio execs know what they are doing. There are many, many examples that prove this is not the case. The reuse of an old name tends to be done for marketing reasons ie, using a recognised name will interest people and describe the film in it's title. There is also the fact that the movie industry is there to make money, not to make good or worthy films - this means they are risk averse (because they get it wrong so many times) and thus feel more comfortable commissioning projects that can be linked to already successful movies.
