Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

I understand the thinking for the first few attempts, until they all flop with loses for the studio, but after that I can't see why execs persist? Do they really think "I know dozens of reboots have flopped but I have 100% faith that mine will be different and bring the studio lots of money"?

I mean hasn't there been enough evidence that reboots of popular films will do far more harm than good to the company? Yet it still happens, which means "something" must work for the studios to continue doing it but I've no idea what that "something" is.

Financiers with too much money and too little sense, thinking their take on whatever that was done before, will be new and great. The guy that financed Terminator Genysis, is a good example. Was convinced his film was a new and interesting take on the Terminator franchise. Critics and audiences thought otherwise. Despite that being a flop, he is still convinced a sequel to Genysis can deliver what people want. No, it will deliver what he thinks people want; which with many of these reboots, is not actually what people want.

They treat money like mud; throw it around until something sticks.

Don't know what to make of that. It's not directed by Paul Feig, so that's something at least.

Looks garbage. Is the rock not getting any good scripts or just grabbing every penny he can?
Not sure even Paul Feig could ruin that mroe than it has been.

Given the fact the Rock is like one of the most highly paid actors at the moment, he is probably grabbing everything he can to make the most of it :)

The rock seems like he's in everything these days, the man must never stop. Still, I like him so could be worth a watch.

He's racking it in currently even with box office bombs like Baywatch.

Sadly he is still just The Rock in films he's had no iconic role to associate himself with.

He's become an iconic brand in himself. You don't cast him in Shakespeare, you cast him because you want The Rock. He's actually quite a decent actor and is great in comedic roles, but I guess it all depends on what scripts he's getting/choosing.

Watched the original for the first time this evening. It was asssssssss. Such shallow characters. Remake / reboot couldn't be any worse.

I think there is some confusion here over whether it's a reboot, it was planned to be but now it's a sequel instead.

It's a sequel, but they they are different stories in the Jumanji universe, so not really linked beyond the "kids sucked into a game" premise. Remember "Zathura: A Space Adventure"? That was originally a Jumanji sequel, but they didn't put the Jumanji name on it even though they are both based on books from the author of Jumanji.

Jack Black's in it, so it's bound to be utter tripe. Karen Gillan is the saving grace... ;)

He's clearly a marmite bloke but I personally really like him, especially in Pick of destiny and school of rock. I'm genuinely excited to see this not just for The Rock but for JB also!

If someone said "what film is this the sequel of" and you guessed Jumanji I would be astounded. On the other hand Karen Gillian with hair, I'm in.

I've never seen the original but I quite enjoyed the trailer. With Rockface and Pond, I'll give it a try.

Booked to go watch in the morning, doing bog standard 2d as I don't think 4dx would be warranted.

I enjoyed it, decent funny action film but I think Jack Black stole the show for me, if you've seen CIA then you know how Kevin Hart and The Rock are together.

Would have enjoyed it more if a women that had a typical witch cackle laugh wasn't trying to make the whole cinema hear her everytime she found something funny.
