Jumping from AMD to Intel/nvidia

No quad channel ram? :(

Key specification:
Form Factor: ATX, 12”x 9.6” (30.5cm x 24.4cm)

And this answers what?

mea culpa

I thought when i answered it that you were saying that it was not capable of quad. You were in fact asking why it was not on the listing?

Mainly because of post #5 and dual channel would do at present with a future upgrade to quad.

andy.

just throwing this out there.
is your current setup struggling with anything?

why not wait until the "new gen" games come out and see whether your system can handle it or not?

it is a VERY good point and one I was hoping for all this kind assistance before I made the "JumP" .. so thanks all.

The only place I struggle is in games with texture packs that run over 1GB VRAM

in my innocence I thought when building the rig that the 3 x 1GB 5870's would "Stack" the VRAM, unfortunately it doesn't.

so Skyrim, modded S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Crysis, crysis 2.. probably 3 as well
and anything else. suffers, especially when turning corners in game and having to reload textures etc.

So, if I'm replacing the GPU's in my loop... and thus have to rip the majority of it apart, I thought I'd investigate if a newer Gen CPU would be of any benefit.

if so, then it's new M/B Waterblock, and GPU, along with new pipes and a full clean up for my baby.

That's where I'm at.

***EDIT***

Also I though intel would be easy to clock higher AND would handle Physx better than AMD

Physx is helped by additional cores and you have a hex core processor. maybe the first step is just to upgrade the graphics using an overclocked 7950. This has a future upgrade path to crossfire if required, but it is a very capable card and gives you 3GB vram.

A 1090T at 4GHz should be good enough to support this.

Selling your trifire 5870's will largely offset the cost even if 1Gb variant.

An intel may well clock higher and give better single core performance and therefore potentially higher frame rates on some games. However if you are getting good enough frame rates on the existing and it is just vram that is limiting, there is no need for the faster processor at the moment.

Your mobo will not support AM3+ so when you upgrade, you will need the mobo / CPU / water block, otherwise I would have said trade your 1090T for piledriver. I did the same and am impressed with the results for the FX8350.
