Hi,

Changed my freeview box yesterday from a techwood (cheapy thing) to a phillips because I couldnt receive all the channels i.e. itv4, itv1, ch4 etc..

So now I can but the majority of my channels jump...

Has anyone experienced this?

If yes, how did you resolve it?

Please help / advise...

Thanks in advance..

Cheers

I have a phillips box, and the channels were jittering i.e chopping sound and picture out momentarily. I fixed this by replacing the aerial cabling which was very old, and i also had to buy a plug in signal booster. Now the picture quality has improved and there is no jumping.

my aerial is an indoor hole in the wall thing, i rent you see so dont think I have a chance of changing the aerial grrrrr am im screwed?

will a signal booster fix it? where can i get one from? how much are they? are they easy to fix?

thanks for help so far

is this the black one with the blue led? god get ready for trouble...my signal is fine but the menu's go invisible sometimes which requires me pulling out the power and turning it back one:mad:

I had one of the black Philips boxes with the blue LED for about an hour. Absolute junk so I took it back!!

oh dear!!!

I thought that was a good one lol

ffs this freeview thing is a nightmare...

so which one do u recommend?

Possibly. Depends how good/bad your signal is!! There should be a way of checking, either in a menu, or by bringing up the program information.

just had a look at the signal strength and quality on the channels which are slightly skipping...

signal strength = 60%
signal quality = 34%

do i need a signal booster?

pls help

thanks

p.s. on the non jumpy channels both strength and quality are near 98%

And I expect the non-jumpy channels are BBC1/2, BBC news 24 etc?

BBC channels are broadcast on a stronger multiplex than the others which will be why you can pick them up fine.

I'd hazard a guess that in this case a signal booster will fix the other channels just fine.

thanks guys...

when i went to the my local electrical store I had a good chat with an experienced guy who told me to try some fixes and volia it worked...

Although I did purchase the signal booster I havent had to use it so thats going straight back.

thanks for your help and advice peeps

What were the fixes then?

well when i installed it I plugged the power in and connect my scart and aerial lead...

he suggested i disconnect it all and unplug from the mains for 10mins...

then replug the scart and aerial and then the power - so i did and voila it worked...

so far no jumpy channels...

today my box started jumping again, so i looked at the signal strength and quality, they went down to their mid 50's again, so I connected the booster and BINGO the signal went up to 95 - 99%...

so thanks for your help and advice, im glad i picked one up anyway

cheers

Generally speaking from my own experience, jumpy or jittery picture on a freeview box is caused mainly by a poor signal for that channel.

I have an even wierder problem in the fact that the mere positioning of my signal booster appears to alter whether I can receive a channel or not.
