So I'm about upgrading this old machine I have,
Just I'm not sure whether I should buy a new PC now or should I wait for windows vista to be fully released and then buy all together instead of installing windows xp now and then I will have to reformat my PC for nothing.
Plus what about the new directx 10 graphics card, are these worth getting now? I'd like to hear your thoughts!

Btw my maximum budget is around 1000k u think i'll be able to get a new spec + OS + lcd 19"? (i got the others peripheral devices such as mouse printer keyboard speakers webcam and so on...).

Thanks in advance

Shay. :)

A budget of £1000 is plenty for a decent spec + 19" LCD. You could get a mid-range c2d setup, 8800 GTS/X and 2GB ram no problems there.

I'm not the best at speccing so just wait for someone that is to see this thread :D.

What is your current spec??

If you want a new PC now £1000 is more than enough for a decent PC, but I won't go for DX10 card yet cause we're not even sure how 8800 will perform in DX10 games yet because there won't be any around until next year, and by then ATi would have released their latest R600.

You may want to get a decent conroe setup with a mid-high DX9 card 7900GS / X1950pro) then upgrade to DX10 card next year when the time is right.

Do you need another copy of winxp?? can't you use your current one??

I can, but I'm thinking about moving to VISTA, therefor I said that I don't want to reformat for *nothing*.

And um, just another newbie question, I guess with a DX9 card I won't be able to play any new DX10 games right? in the (near) future.
