I was thinking of getting just a single 300GB Velociraptor for my new build, it will be mainly a gaming PC and so i dont need loads of HDD space, will i be ok with just a Velociraptor on its own?

i have one raptor x 150gb and it is enough for me at moment would be diferent story when games more games will be 30 + gb

Yup, Love my 300Gb Veloci on my gaming build. I have a LOT of games installed and the 150 I had just didnt seem to have enoguh space. (I store all files on my server)

A Velociraptor won't make a difference to gaming and with a single drive you limit yourself. One of the 74GB Velociraptors or an SSD for the OS and any fast 7200rpm drive for games would be my move.

Anything above a single 7200rpm disk,be it RAID 0, SSD's, Velociraptors etc gives you no advantage for gaming. You gain a couple of seconds, it's nothing.

it's a couple of seconds less waiting for a level or a programme to load up, which means small bit of extra work can be done

Hmm, 1min you say no gain, next you say a couple of secs. ;)

No real need to even say anything to that. ;)

I will never ever use a Internal 7.2K HDD again. :)

I thought I was supposed to be on your ignore list helmut?

I am aware of what I said hence "You gain a couple of seconds, it's nothing." When your load times are 30-40 seconds anyway shaving another couple off is nothing.

But then again you don't listen to what anybody says.

I at times remove all peeps. and start over and is that the best you can come back with ?.

You don't say much that makes any sense so why would I listen to you.

You even contradict yourself above as always. :)

Contrarary to what a previous poster said, a single raptor will not limit you in gaming. You'll still be able to take advantage of the seek/access times (which don't improve with RAID 0, if anything get worse) which is the main strength I think of the Raptor. The transfer speed of a single raptor will also be decent.
