Just about to click buy, but wanted to make sure everything was compatable and peoples final opinions before i did so.

The pc is mainly going to be used for adobe apps such as photoshop and after effectsand as a media centre for playing HD content etc. The system will be hooked up to a 24'' monitor and I will be overclocking.

things that I am unsure of-

I know very little about motherboards and am not sure if the one I have selected is the best for the money. I want it to be a good overclocker, be able to take the new generation of cpu's and generally be a good allrounder.

GFX card - Am i making the right choise in chosing this card. I have heard that the ATI cards are suited better for multimedia work stations, if so what do yoiu think about swapping the GT for the new ATI 3800 series? All I know is that the GT is supposed to be better for gaming whihc I will be doing very little of. Also does anyone know when the GT's are coming back in stock at the ETA for the 16th has now been removed?

Im hoping to use my dvd drive from my current computer for now. All i know is that it is a NEC 3520 ATA device, but what I need to know is that will this be compatable with the new hardware as it is a few years old now.

And lastly, are there any tools I need to purchase in order to build the computer?

Any pointers at all would be of great value as I have been pushing off buying this sytem for a few weeks now as im never 100% sure if i have got it right.

sorry if any/all of this has already been answered on previous posts but any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks.

your DVD drive should work without a problem, to build the computer, you will need a crosshead screwdriver, patience, a large clean build area and a working computer so you can request help from us if you require it :D

Your spec looks real good. I like the cooler, case, PSU, small HDD, and processor choices. You could save a tiny bit by getting the cheapest PC2-6400C4 available at the time of purchase since it'll all perform just about the same when 'clocking that quad. The cheapest ATM is this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-072-OC&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=813

Some older-gen HDDs might be a bit slower, but they'd save you a fair chunk of money. A pair of 500 GB WD AAKS-series disks would run £131.58 including tax. That's a savings of £58.74.

I'd take the ATi due to its fancy hardware for decoding some popular HD codecs. The price is around the same point as is the gaming performance. :)

Your current DVD drive will work, but PATA is on its way out so it probably won't last into your next rig. On this one it'll be fine.

The only tool you'll need is a Phillips head screwdriver.

Thanks guys, especially billy who has responded to my constant 'how is this spec' posts over the past few weeks. I am so indecisive when it comes to making a big purchse such as this, and now I feel it is finally time to bite the bullett and make the purchase. No doubt ill be back on here asking for advice when it actually comes to building it.

Tbh not a huge amount at the moment but it saves you putting an IDE cable in the machine :)

Oh, and that Antec case is fantastic. Very easy to work in and look great

hehe, yeah i'm probably going to replace my old IDE DVD writer for a SATA one in my next build only because I hate IDE cables so much. That's kind of a waste now that i think about it... ;)

I think ill wait until I upgrade my dvd drive for now, ill probably get a blu ray drive when they have become a bit more mainstream. As for the money ive saved there, Id like to spend it on a TV card. Any in particular that stand out? I don't mind spending up to about £50 pounds.

Cheers

I prefer the term 'Aqua' :p I don't see the point of putting an LED one in his case which has no clear side panel as far as I'm aware... I'd have probs done the same, the other isn't in stock & if the only difference is LED fan then so be it... I however took to getting Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme myself though.
