Just back from Newcastle.

I always thought that about Manchester :confused:

I suppose every city is going to have its fair share of grim areas, but in general I would say Newcastle was less grim. Manchester does have the advantage of having 7billion takeaways that are seemingly open all night long, but everything is soo spread out.

Speaking of grim cities, I remember when I was going to a gig in Liverpool a couple of years ago, it was the day of the Carling Cup final and my mate wanted to find a pub ASAP to watch it. I drove past about 6 or 7 pubs on the outskirts of Liverpool before we decided that we HAD to go to the city centre - most of these places had boarded up windows etc. - not a good first impression! The city-centre was nice though.
 
As a sunderland lad,
I have always prefered newcastle as a city to visit, shop and spend time

I tend not to 'go out' for nights, but it is dead easy to get to on the bus ( never driven there yet - no need probs quicker to gett he bus ! )

so coming from a mackem... I like newcastle city.

been to london... err lets not go there again.
