Just returned to my van to find the driver's window smashed and the sat nav and a mobile phone (N95) taken.

The sat nav is linked to the vehicle (traffic master) so is absolutely useless to the thief and although the N95 is factory unlocked, I have the EMEI nuber so they're *******>

Pain in the ****!

\ vent.

The only valuable thing I leave in my cars is probably a biro.

Never been broken into but people don't break into cars to check things, they take the opportunity and take what ever they can see or find.

Leeds is the car crime capital of the world (after Liverpool).

I had my car broken into when I was in Roudhay. They drilled out the lock, ripped out the underside of the steering column to try and tried to hotwire it! ****ing retards!!

Considering all modern cars have an immobiliser rendering the car totally useless without the transponder key, I can't see why they'd even attempt to hotwire it? Either I'm missing something here or the wannabe thieves were total idiots.

Sorry OP, know exactly how gutting it is. One of our break in happened when our car was clearly empty, was at the Leeds festival and Id even left the glove box open so that was clearly empty and the stereo wasnt on. Still some **** felt the need to break in, the ignition wasnt tampered with so Ive got no idea what they were thinking.

Liverpool has the lowest rate of crime per population of any city in England.

Yep, I've never got any of the "hub-cap" nonsense that some people come out with, never known where it came from either. I've parked my car (only a corsa mind :P) in some of the roughest areas and never had a single problem whatsoever, that's not to say there aren't problems, there are, but not like stupid stereotypes would suggest. I remember there was a report on the BBC where bicycles were left in major UK cities and liverpool was also the lowest in terms of how quickly the bicycle was stolen.

+1

Don't see why you'd leave that stuff lying around in the car in the first place to be honest, the fact that it may or may not be useless to them isn't going to stop them seeing it and taking that chance.

Sorry to hear about the break-in though.

This is the very reason i never lock my cars or leave anything inside, i just cant be doing with smashed windows and the hassle of popped locks etc

Spot which is worst? For such a small city, Nottingham has an alarming rate of crime, also note that your first link excludes London which has by far the highest rates of all types of crime, although there are good and bad areas everywhere. The "English" average also takes into account rural areas where certain types of crime are obviously less common, therefore most major cities will be "above average" in most areas.
