Just parked in the pay and display around the corner from the chippie, where I always do.

Come back what must have been less than 60 seconds later (no queue in the shop) to this:

£125 release fee.

This car park used to be a normal pay and display. They've obviously cottoned on there's money to be made. I asked how long it had been private and he said 3 months, which I don't think is true.

The ticket machine was still there with a bag over it. Obviously I should have gone to get a ticket and realised, but with only being gone a minute and all.

How do they get away with charging so much? Big hole in my student wage that is. :(

Amazing how quick the fat ***** moved, must have been sat waiting.

you can usually get out of these things cant you?

im sure theres various loopholes you can exploit to get off scott free, was there a clamping certificate on show?

Duuude! That is the exact clamp I had about 3 years ago - private clamping company.

Go rent some heavy duty cutters and cut the chain off. Dump the clamp somewhere else. I never heard anything from it since.

Yep that's right.

He said all the cars in there were permit holders. Even though I pointed out a few without, he said "We know about those".

There's no way it's been private for 3 months though. There were signs that he pointed out, right in the corners of the carpark where I don't look. Naturally, because I still thought it was still a pay and display.

What's these loopholes you talk of?

Also when I was coming back from the cashpoint, one of them had walked off and the other sat in his van next to my car.

What would have happened if I legged it into my car and locked the doors to avoid being towed? I was realllly tempted to do this but was more worried about making the fine worse so didn't.

Would that have been a good or bad idea?

as was mentioned, was there a CLEAR sign that clamping was in operation?
Nothing that was clear enough to stand out and make me see it. Like I said, at the corners there was smallish signs on the wall.

Get yourself some huge alloys becuase I've noticed a lot of the private firms clamps are only suitable for tyres up to 205 to about 225mm wide :D

WTF! I didn't know that either, thought it was pay and display too!

I know as you can get the other half of the ticket and claim it off your bill for drinks at the black cross, well you used to be able to.

For gods sake don't pay that. If you can do without it untill thursday evening go to your local hardware rental shop tomorrow and rent a pair of bolt cutters. Go down later tomorrow evening and set it free. It's not rocket science and should only take 2 mins.

Not really dude. Just blag them a little bit tomorrow, tell them that if it's moved they wont see penny one. If it stays you will pay at 9am on friday (as this is when you get payed and so on). Of course at 9am on friday they'll be looking at an empty space. Personally I think you'd be a sucker to pay, and i'm no keyboard warrior.
