Just been in Halfords

saw my Gt avalanche 2.0 reduced to £350 and the 1.0 to £450 today in a local shop in Darlington.

@Fusion, not wanting to rain on your parade, but there's nothing special about that aggressor you bought, for £40 more you could have had the avalanche 2.0 with hydraulic discs, Suntour XCR forks with 100mm travel etc, maybe even less online now as the '08 bikes are due for release.

Can't see a set of Suntour forks being any better than the Darts, even if the Rock Shox's are entry level. Plus the Avalanche has only got a 8 speed cassette, mines 9. I wouldn't have spent an extra £40 just to get Hydraulic discs, and that's excluding delivery costs (only a tenner probably, but still) and if they had the bike in my size. It was nice to go along and pick it up that day.

Believe me I did my homework, I was on Evans cycles' website constantly, and making trips to their Nottingham branch making enquiries. I visited J.E James in Chesterfield, as well as a couple of other local shops and found no sparking deals.

I'm not a fan of Halfords. I think their service is poor, and I'd much rather buy from an independent store if the alternative was there. But I am happy with my bike purchase, and believe I got the best deal available to me at that time (especially being an impatient git and not wanting to wait a week for it to be delivered).
