I live on a one way street where people take liberties all day by driving the wrong way to reach a main road that takes 90 seconds to get to going the correct way and around the block. (yes, I'm that anal that I've timed it)

So, I'm just about to cross the road to go through my gate when I spot someone with their headlights on coming the wrong way; so... I step into the road and wave her down and point out her mistake in a reasonable manner, indicating a sign just above my head that is a white arrow on a blue background facing the way she's just come from.

"move!" she says ........ I tell her again, reasonably, that she is travelling the wrong way, and should turn around. She then attempts to drive around me so I move in front of her again.
"move, or I'll run you over" she says ....... ok, I'll call the police, says I; "call 'em" she says.

So I call the police and give the details, meanwhile she calmly lights a cig' and smiles. During this time, a couple who were also walking along, shout "just turn around and go the right way, you stupid *****" (female dog) ...... they get the finger.
Anyway, about 5mins pass while I'm giving the reg' of her car etc, when she decides to turn around and go.

Cutting a long story short...
The police arrive (20 mins) to say that they've stopped her and she admitted going the wrong way but said that she felt intimidated and frightened. I'm 55years old, carrying my Somerfield's shopping bags and am 5ft 6" tall..... go figure.
I said that the situation was quite the reverse and that I had actually been threatened to be run over so check the logs to see WHO telephoned the police and when ....

Upshot is that they say that they're going to give her a caution only; (if that's ok with me) ..... I said ok, and have left it but now feel that someone who actually threatens your life should get a little more than that ...... suppose I'll let it drop, what would you do ? (apart from NOT step into the road). ;)

/keyboard warrior mode on

Would have gone over and smacked her one in the gob the gobby cow:D

/keyboard warrior mode off

Seriously i would let it drop and wouldnt have bothered even saying anything to her tbh:shrug:

Killed her by ripping the bonnet off of the car and throwing it at her like a frisbee with my manly strength taking her head off.
/KWend

Nah, id just have hit the car with my fist or keys or something, denting it etc, the minute she started getting lairy. But then im 19 and dont have a problem getting physical with the arrogant idiots of the world, you did what was sensible.

What kind of car was she driving, was she a "im in a new car and am wealthy normal rules dont apply to me" or was she a "i dont care about anything at all" kind of woman?

I think saying it was a threat on your life is a bit rich

She threatened to run him over!

Singist, I would have noted her plate, then taken a full pelt run and thrown myself onto her bonnet, then sued her face off :D

(in an ideal world)

(I'm too much of a girl to do that)

/nosey git mode on

take a notepad and watch the road all day taking notes of registration plates, car colours/models and driver details etc.

then go to council office with your evidence and demand something must be done

/nosey git mode off

or just put it down to experience

Not that I'd go the wrong way down a one way street but if that had have been me driving I'd be quite peeved that a rogue pedestrian was taking it upon themselves to police the roads. I think you were silly to do what you did. There's nothing wrong with pointing out the error in the first place, but to stand in front of her car comes across as stupid. Would you have acted in the same way had it been a 6ft tall white van driver? People react to road rage very differently and you should never put yourself in the position where you endanger yourself, just to "teach 'em a lesson".

If she does it again then do the same, only this time throw yourself on her bonnet and claim she ran you down on purpose :D

Fog

PS: I'm not seriously suggesting you do this ;)

Edit: D'oh!! should read replies properly really shouldnt I ??!!!

You, my friend, are an absolute legend! :D

I would definitely do that... especially if I had a friend with a camcorder pointing at me.

Other than that, I would keep a look out for any other cars that decide to go the wrong up a one way street and throw eggs at their cars (from the safety of a hiding place).

That's not a KB warrior mode either, I really would.

Beat you :p

And to the guy who said 'do you believe her'.. no.

But if I said to you 'I'm going to kill you' it's still a threat on your life, whether you think I'm full of crap or not.

To be fair it's hardly a credible threat as you could just have walked out of the road instead of contesting :p (eventhough I agree with you, sometimes it's just not worth bothering with people)

I usually don't do something if see someone do that kind of thing, but if i did, i'd just give her a shout as she was passing by, not stand infront of the car, that's just plain silly.

Yeah....I did do the unreasonable thing once and put a huge dent in the bonnet of some guy's shiny hot hatch. He had tried to drive around me too.
Was a bit worried when 3 20year old guys got out though.
I know that I'm probably in a minority of one but I believe that the law applies to everyone and that sometimes you have to stand up and be counted (preferably not run over).

If I were the driver who's been caught though, I'd say "ooops! sorry, didn't notice; I'll turn around" and do it.... not give the finger and laugh as I try to speed past.

Having said all of the above, I was very restrained and polite when I spoke to the woman that I mentioned earlier.

Yes, the law does apply to everyone including yourself. You've just admitted to criminal damage of someones car for gods sake! By all means stand up and say your piece but don't take the law into your own hands. Leave matters like this to the professionals as you have no right to police peoples actions.

I'm not having a go at you, I just strongly disagree with your logic. I have had times when I lost my temper, for example when I was nearly killed while driving my motorbike I picked myself off the ground and laid into the car which drove into me until I collapsed unconscious. Even given that situation I had no right to do such a thing even though the stupid driver nerly killed me and I have no problem admitting I was in the wrong but adrenaline can do wonderful things.

Hmm I remember when you posted about your vigilante ways last time, singist :/ You are a bit of a tool for doing what you do, in my opinion. No offence of course ;)
