Hi guys, I've been looking for a bike to use once I go to uni in september as I wont be able to take my car on campus, was looking at a bike on ebay from a dealer and it was due to end this afternoon so I took a punt on it just as a kind of token bid and ended up winning.... wasnt quite what I had planned!

The bike is a 2001 kawasaki ZX6R (J1 model) fsh with 6 service stamps and 4,061 miles on the clock and original and apparently 'good' condition.

Im picking it up tomorrow and paid £2000, which is where you guys come in, fair deal or more than it was worth?

thanks again! bit panicky about it tbh as I totally hadnt expected to win :/

yeah for the mileage,id say it was a decent deal

how many owners?

I have the g1 model, year or two before the j model (basically the same apart from fairing) just clocked up 53k miles no trouble at all

Link to listing would help.

Seems like a pretty good price. Mileage seems very low, suggests it may have been stood for a long time. Did it come with T&T?

4000 miles really ? the ignition tells a different story by looking at the picture but ha ho check out the history before parting with your cash.

Not a great photo so I could be wrong.

Looks ok to me,the ignition barrel paint flakes off pretty quickly, mines almost all bare aluminum

Don't worry about it being stood either, they fire straight up and run fine

as said they flake of extremely easily! back in 2010 i had a 750 cc kawasaki and that had 8,000 confirmed miles but the barrell look like someone had near on taken sandpaper to it

you'll tell by the fairing, look for excessive stonechips and look at the wheels

worn footrest rubbers and handlebar grips show its done high miles unless they change them ect, shiny seat also half of mines gone shiny

You could have posted on here before the buy & I would have gone look at it for you as I'm local.
Having said that if it is a Genuine 4000 mile ZX6R you can't really go wrong. First thing I'd check is the state of the radiator as that will give a good idea if the mileage is genuine as people don't change rads when skanking buyers.
I don't like how the advert reads but that's the dealer covering himself & a standard statement by the looks of it.
Being rode in is what you want to hear but I'd like to see what work has been done recently as it has obviously been standing for a big part of it's life.
I'd check the tyres brake pads discs brake pipes change all the fluids etc.
Truth be told though you could thrash the **** out of a ZX6R for 4000 miles straight & it would still be good for another 50K.
Let us know how it turns out. :)

I will do cheers for the advice, already insured on it etc just going to pick it up tomorrow afternoon, unless the tyres have been done very recently the first thing I will be doing when i get back is changing them, I learnt at the start of my motorbiking life that old tyres are a very bad idea indeed!

Surely if its a dealer sale I still have some comeback or because he states its a 'trade' sale does the exempt them from the normal rules? The guys seemed nice enough on the phone, not that that means anything!

should be covered,it should come with some sort of warranty I would have thought

4k miles is nothing at all, provided its true, idk if it has any service history stamps or old mot to prove ect

tyres should be ok imo,i thrash mine around since ive owned it,been great

seems a lot for 4k? idk but id check it ect

I only had mine serviced twice from new,one at 4k miles for a rattling cam chain tensioner that was replaced free with an improved part, then at 23k for the valve clearances, hasnt been looked at since

Top of the pay scale for that tbh. If your just going to use as a commuter and getting in and around uni then maybe something less shiney. There still quite nickable bikes so get a decent chain and alarmed disc lock. The 6 pots brakes are *******s as well and you really need to keep on top of them in the winter. I had the G1 version as my hack until some kind lady decided to say hello to my back end.
