hello people... my first time posting in the motor section! I've just bought a 1996 Honda Civic 1.4i second hand.
The problem is that the windows have been tinted quite a lot. I thought I liked it but its a pain to drive with (especially as i've just passed). I want to remove all of it but don't know the best way of going about it.
The rear windscreen has a very dark tint and the back sides have the same. The front has a very light tint with the front windscreen being untouched.
I think the tint is film but unsure!

What can I do?

You need to peel off the tint from the top or the corner of each window. They leave behind a horrible sticky goo on your windows though, so its best to spray it with water and use a stanley knife blade to get it all off. Takes a bit of time to do though.

Cheers mate... I've heard of people using ammonia, hair dryers and all sorts of other chemicals. Is this all necessary?

A friends car had the same thing. The Goo really is horrible but after a short raid of my mums draws (ooww err) we found some stuff called "Zinoffle" which is a plaster sticky remover (the type of plaster you use when you cut yourself) This worked AMAZEINGLY well!

As the bottle was about 10 years old I'm not sure if you can get it anymore, but I would bet any "Plaster Sticky Stuff" remover would do the job, sure Boots would sell some. Amazeing stuff.

dont do this by candle light though

Lol!!! :p

ConfusedTA - Its a good idea mate but I want to drive this asap as i'm paying insurance already. Driven it a couple of times but really don't like the windows!

As soon as i'm done i'll post some before/after pics (assuming all goes well :p )

professional tinters may do a better job of removing this than you can... shouldnt cost more than about £100..

You may be surprised if you post - someone may be in your area and would be able to do it within the next couple of days! ;) It's worth a post on a forum before you go ahead! ;)

Just had a look again mate and the rear windscreen has a couple of bubbles anyway! Cheers for the advice though!

I doubt someone would swap the rear windscreen but swapping the side windows would take less time than removing the tint.

Jobs done guys :) ... a lot easier than I thought it would be! Thanks for all the advice!

Before:

(sorry about the quality of these... i didn't take them! :p )

After:

The pictures don't really show that much of a change as the windows have the factory tint back. However, inside the car there is light now!!! I actually think the car looks a lot better now... thought the windows were a bit ott.

Any comments welcome!
