Had a Playstation VR headset for over a year but saw a deal on a WMR headset in the sales so decided to give it a try.

Any game recommendations for someone who's new to Windows mixed reality?

I was thinking about getting fallout 4 VR but it says Vive only in Steam? Can you play Vive/Oculus titles on Windows mixed reality?

I ordered one today from Lenovo Uk in the Black Friday sale £109.
Will i get a better visual experience than on my PSVR (PS4 pro) ?

Got the same deal as well so will post up my thoughts assuming the headset arrives and Lenovo don't cancel the order as it was price glitch :D

One of my friends has the Dell WMR headset which I've tried so I'm assuming the Lenovo will have similar optics since the specs are the same.

Compared to my PSVR you notice the higher resolution especially when reading text. It's better but not quite as noticeable a jump as you might expect looking at the numbers alone (going from 960x1080 per eye to 1440x1440).

The tracking works really well and is much better than the move controllers / Playstation camera setup though.

I mainly bought it for Fallout/Skyrim/Rec room and shooter games which benefit from the improved tracking. I'd also love to try elite dangerous in VR and maybe Subnautica.

I did kind of get drawn in by the black Friday deals as I'd intended skipping the current range of desktop VR headsets and waiting for the oculus quest or PSVR2. It was a bit of an impulse buy really. Figured I couldn't go wrong with a WMR headset for £100 though!

Apparently they will dispatch on 30th November to arrive by 4th December according to reports on HUKDeals.

Hopefully it turns up but I only really bought it since it was cheap so if it does get cancelled then it's no great loss! Oddly, they don't seem to have taken the money from my bank account yet either?'

The only thing annoying me is that I'd like to buy fallout 4/Skyrim in the sales which end today/tomorrow. So it would be useful to know one way or another of I'm going to get it. Might just buy the games in the sale and I can refund them if it doesn't turn up!

I'll post an update here if/when I get an update

My mate games in VR using a geforce 970 so you should be fine though may have to lower the detail slightly when gaming. I just have a Geforce 980 myself but it runs most games fine at 1440p so I'm sure both it and your 480 will be fine.

Regarding the motion controllers if you've never tried them in VR before I think you'll be amazed how good they are. I thought I'd mainly just play cockpit style games when I got my PSVR. But when you start using motion controllers with games like Superhot and Skyrim you realise what a game changer they are for immersion. It really takes gaming to the next level.

Just had confirmation this evening that my headset has been shipped!

I'm a big fan of PSVR and feel it's pretty much on a par visually compared to the other current gen headsets. However I would say that the oculus go headset I had was noticeably better than PSVR when watching 3D movies thanks to the higher resolution . I'd kind of assumed the WMR headsets would also be noticeably better?

What about the hololens driver?
I reinstalled the driver, tried different versions, on one of the 3 pcs I tested I did a fresh windows instalation.

What happens when you plug it in? Literally nothing. Do you hear the connection noise? Any lights/power LEDs? Is anything being displayed?

First thing I'd check would be connecting it to a USB wall adaptor incase your PC/USB port isn't delivering enough power.

I'll collect mine this weekend so can hopefully offer a couple of suggestions to help! Assuming mine actually works

To be fair reading your reply it sounds like you know what you're doing so it probably is faulty unfortunately.

@Drangueos Picked up the headset today. The setup went pretty smoothly so I'm thinking that you may have a faulty unit unfortunately.

The only real gotcha was that after installing SteamVR (which is prompted me to do after connecting the headset) I also had to manually search for and install "Windows Mixed Reality for Steam" before the headset was detected with any of the Steam games I tried to use it with.

First impressions and pretty good. The resolution is decent and tracking from the headset based cameras is also working great. Overall I wouldn't say it was any better or worse than the other headsets (PSVR,Vive, Oculus Rift/Go) I've tried really. They're all pretty similar.

Happy to answer any questions if anyone wants more information. I'll try a few more games tonight.

Unfortunately it looks like my Geforce 980 isn't supported for motion reprojection. I need to try playing around with supersampling. So far when I've increased things like that it's caused the frame rate to take a dive resulting in choppy performance. I'll play around with the settings.

Does anyone have any tips on how to get WMR steam games working smoothly. I've tried a few titles but many seem to have performance issues or control mapping problems? My friend doesn't have these issues on his Vive with a lesser spec so I'm guessing it's a WMR problem?

Is there something I'm missing as one had to refund a couple of titles which looked like they should work without issue?

I know my GPU (Geforce 980) is getting on a bit but I didn't expect to encounter so many problems. Guess I've maybe been spoiled by the ease of PSVR and expected the windows experience to be as straightforward!
