Well after the farce i had with Dell and the XPS L702X that i bought and returned earlier in the year, i've finally settled on and purchased a new one.

I'm in the RAF and require a laptop that i can take away with me and for when i'm away from unit visiting family so after deliberating for a few months i made my decision.

I've gone for a Vortex II 17.3" from a competitor which is basically a Clevo P170HM. I've paid £1280 for it which is a bit more expensive than the XPS but i think in the long run it will be worth it.

I've got 4gb of memory to stick in it and a 128GB Crucial M4, but depending on the performance as stock i may keep the SSD in my desktop.

I've got the 500gb just to store movies etc on, plus an m4 128gb SSD to stick in it as the OS drive. Maybe if the prices drop i'll get a bigger second drive.

Can't wait for it to arrive, i've been told to expect it at the end of this week or the start of next :)

I bought an old Pentium 4 laptop years ago for £1300. Took it to Iraq for 2 months and it was pretty much ruined when I came back.
I vowed never to waste money on a laptop again.

Being in the RAF though you should be able to pack yours with your slippers, pyjama's etc so it should be ok ;)

Jokes aside. Sounds like a good spec laptop. Couldn't you get it with a Blu-Ray drive?

Currently looking at same(ish) spec. Just undecided on gloss vs matte screen, and the 15" vs 17". For programming and gaming. Just how big is 17 exactly, people go on about not being portable but its only a couple extra inches?

Got it in 15", tbh its not protable either due to the fricking huge power brick so I wouldnt worry too much, for gaming it looks amazing I went for gloss as I dont tend to use my laptop outside of my house, if you will be taking it out then I would go with 15" and a matte screen.

Lol how bad are we talking here, will the brick fit in a laptop case? N whats the chassis like? I do like to sit out when its nice so maybe matte screen is best, just worried will look ass in comparison :/

I can fit everything inside my belkin messenger bag with room to spare. The power brick is large but to be fair its far from non portable.

I love the chassis, it looks very classy!
