I went into a store well known for selling retro gaming games and hardware. I bought myself a Sega Master System 1 with control pad and two light guns it has Hang On and Safari Hunt built in and I bought six other games. I got all this for under £30.

I would like to clean it up so it can look its best. What's the best way to clean up old retro consoles?

when i bought a NES a few months ago off egay it was a bit dirty so i just stripped it and washed the case in warm soapy water. did the same with the controllers too as they were a little grubby to :(

its all sparkling now though :D

I use Mr Muscle multipurpose (lemon atm) and get a cotton bud into all the hard to clean bits. I then use a damp cloth to remove all residue and dry with kitchen towel or a tea towel.

class choice for a console, I regret selling mine!

Sonic 1 is a class game on the master system, more strategic than the mega drive version

I normally use anti-static wipes for this kind of thing and with a bit of work they clean things up quite nicely.

It is rather old so maybe try this :

get yourself some switch cleaner mate, spray that stuff in all the nooks and crannies then leave it overnight, thatll do the electrics. Be more careful witht he outside cos you dont wanna use anything that can damage plastics, if i were you i would use cotton swabs and medical alcohol or plain ethanol. No acids, duh.

I took it all apart and washed the the casing in hot soapy water then cleaned after with some all surface cleaner going over nooks and crannies with a toothbrush. I blasted the mother bored with that compressed air and brushed it with a dry tooth brush. The tooth brushes I bought were cheap ones purely for this kind of thing.

After I rinsed the casing and dried it with a hair drier I put it back together give it a polish. Good thing is it looks a lot better now and it still works. :D
