It's dead :(

Informed of this via the S.M.A.R.T feature and confirmed using Western Digitals diagnostic tool.

Checked and it's under limited warranty until 2008 as mentioned in the forsale thread, Can I RMA it myself or does the original buyer have to do it?

bit of a noob question I know, but never had to RMA anything before. :o

If you have the receipt you should be able to send it back to the manufacturer, but a store probably would only deal with the first user.

Will have to ask the seller about the receipt.

You would only need the reciept in 2 cases;

1) if you wanted to return to store

2) if it was out of the warranty. but should still be under due to manufactor and sell date difference

So no; you will be able to RMA it yourself
