Just bought a TyTN II (o2 stellar)

Ooh a CoPilot user!
I dont suppose you've used TomTom per chance and compared the two? CoPilot looks very lush actually!

I've just put on TomTom on my Stellar, works a treat! But if I can just get it to display in landscape mode without having to open my keyboard...

I've not used TomTom on the phone but used to have a TomTom One. So far I'd say its as good as that. When I switch on CoPilot in the car I get a GPS lock almost instantly. Have a look at the review here.

Thats not bad? I just compared the TomTom on the Tytn against a TomTom One (the slim one).

Its on par, and if anything in some instances it updates faster than the TomTom One.

Surely its not that jerky Gentwee?

smids - Thanks for your comments :) Taken on board!
Admitidly it was a slight exaggeration, but it's anything but smooth. My original TyTN however was. It's still usable to can screw you up on roundabouts if you loose count on which exit to take.

hopefully there'll be a fix soon
I've been following that since it first started, somehow just I don't think they're gonna get anywhere unfortunately.

Hmm I didnt realise such an issue existed.

But the Stellar is not list as among those phones?
Or is it classed as a TyTn?

I had a look at this...

And that is quite a difference!

I compared my TomTom against the video, its certainly faster than the TyTn on display in the vid.

But then the TyTn on display in the vid is different to my Stellar

Hmm, yea I saw that review and as I say.. looks real lush!

Can I ask how much it set you back?
And more importantly, how big is the program on your uSD?

The Stellar is a brander TyTn II :)

Yea I thought that too see.

But on that site it says the TyTn II is plagued with this "driver issue"

HTC TyTN II (MSM7200), also known as:
HTC Kaiser
T-Mobile MDA Vario III
AT&T Tilt
Vodafone v1615

Gentwee - Could you run a demo at 100% speed against the video above and compare the frame rate and let us know?

To be frank, so far I can find anything wrong with the phone in terms of frame rate! I mean ok its sluggish at times when load applications, but thats to be expected no?

Actually one other thing was when I scroll around on a pdf, it does "lag" a little, but nothing crazy.

Mine actually runs slower than that video. I wasn't exaggerating but that much earlier after all :p

Btw if you haven't found out how to have tomtom running landscape without opening your keyboard have a look in your system settings of the phone. You can set it to landscape there and tomtom will follow.

Wow Gentwee Im very suprised! You positive? It runs slower than the TyTN (right hand phone)? If so then that is indeed pig ugly slow!

Yea I saw the option in system settings to run the phone in landscape, but I was kinda hoping for an inbuilt option in the program itself, or at least some kind of shortcut button to switch between the two (instead of having to delve in and out of the system settings).

Btw which mobile operator TyTn do you have?

I paid around £83. Once I'd removed all the extra voices and languages I think its takes up less than 300 MB.

Mines a T-Mobile Vario 2. I haven't optimised mine so it probably can get a little bit faster but it'll never run at full speed.

shine - Same. But the sluggishness seems to be no different to that of all the Windows Mobile Devices Ive used over the years.

Gentwee - How does one "optimise" their smartphone? Some kind of defragging?

Mine's a T-Mobile Vario III - I assume that's what Gentwee meant as well. Having seen the video posted earlier I say mine's not as bad as that.

I have noticed it is slow redrawing screens. Having said that using CoPilot I've had no problems so I think the degree of problem varies between handsets.

Any diference will be due to the firmware running on the phone and the speed of your sd card. The driver issue affects all tytnIIs, touchs and any other htc devices running the qualcomm chip.

I got my tytnII on orange, it was simlocked and came with the orange firmware version. For some reason orange removed quite a few of the WM6 features I was used to from my Tytn (such as messenger) however it only takes a few minutes to reflash to the OEM firmware and sim unlock the phone.

Ive noticed many people reflashing their TyTn roms etc and what not.
Would this cause any performance increase at all or is it simply GUI/Aethetics that it affects?

Also about this driver issue, do you think we will see a "driver"?

I don't think we'll see a driver. HTC have said themselves they're not doing anything about it and you'll have to buy their next series product for better support. With regards to the ROMs you can quite simply modify your own to have whatever WM6 components you want, similar to installing an nlite'd xp. cutting out some of the bloat you don't need may well have a good affect on performance, I just went for the OEM ROM though so I got all the goodies :D

If the Stellar has the HTC home screen as per the Vario III, just rotate the screen before launching Tomtom as this works perfectly.
