Hi guys, so i eventually ordered my i7 system and me and a friend put it all together, which i was actually really proud of considering id never done any work with heatsinks and such, but it was fairly straightforward, just stupid lack of observation and such that took us so long lol.

Anyway its now finally booting but ive got a few problems, well it boots okie it just takes a very long time and goes through a hell of a lot of screens. Ill start with the build itself first

*edit* its the deluxe version of the mobo i have, and retail cpu.

Okie the first screen im seeing is the mobo screen which stays for a few seconds then switch's to another.

This basically says marvell xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, it then takes 4 seperate lines and says

Resetting controller 1..
Intialising controller 1.
Spin up group 1 ......
Intiialising raid component

This lasts for about 10 seconds i guess.

Then i get marvel bios again, and this time

Adapter 0

No viritual disk
No phsyical disc

Next page marvel xxxxxxxxxxxx bios

Initialising..

Discs information
No hard disc detected!

Then i get a blank screen with a prompt flashing for about 20 seconds, and then finally the vista (business) loading bar

I have had a little look at bios but truth be told i dont really know what im looking for. Though i did notice in bios that for some reason my optical drive and hdd are set at like 5 and 6 sata, but i can only see 2 sata ports on the motherboard, which i used, so i dont see where the other 4 are, especially 1 and 2.

Sorry for so much information, any help would be greatly appreciated :)

This took me about 8 restarts while typing on the laptop lol :D

Possibly it's trying to initialise the RAID controller? Not 100% sure, but is it possible to disable the RAID controller in the BIOS? Making sure your HDD and DVD are on the normal SATA ports.

Well i had a look in bios and im not seeing any mention of raid at all, and yea my mobo only has 2 sata ports, so ive no idea how the hell they can be 5 and 6 lol.

Actually I believe the two you are using are the Marvell Serial Attached ports, probably best not using these and moving them to the other 4 standard ports :) I might be wrong but there should be 6 SATA ports :)

Are your devices plugged into the red or orange ports?

The 6 red ports and 2 orange ports which are the Marvell Serial Attached SCSI ports

im going to just come right out and say it because i cant find them anywhere on this mobo lol, where the hell are the other 4 sata ports :D

they are 2 red sata ports side by side

I'm just downloading the manual to see where in the BIOS to turn the marvell controller off :)

Ok go to Advanced > Onboard Device Configuration > Marvell SAS > Disabled :) that should turn off the two orange SAS ports which aren't used.

lol :( the little buggers were hiding from me :D

i wanna use the orange ports or red? thank you so much for this btw lol

use the red ports :) and go into the BIOS do the above steps and that should turn off the two orange ports, which are the Marvell SAS ports, then hopefully you shouldn't get all that stuff at POST.

:(

id installed everything, then i went to take out the sata cables in the centre and put them in the sata ports at the side, pulling them out obviously was not a problem, however plugging them in is near imposible since they face the drive bay, i cant for teh love of god understand why they would face them this way but anyway, i inplugged 1 of the 2 graphics power supplys since the wire kinda obstructed my fingers feeding in the 2 sata cables, anyway i eventually removed a drive bay and slid my fingers through that and guided in the sata cables, re plugged in the 1 and a quarter power supplies to the graphics cable tied up a bit, and powered it up.

only now my monitor is getting no signal :( i checked the 8 pin cpu power connector as best i could, since its kinda obstructed by the heatsink, but i squeezed my fingers down the side and it isnt pushing in any further, ive unpluged and re-plugged the 1 and a quater power connectors in to the gfx card 3 times.

everything is spinning when i press power, but it just isnt reaching my monitor, is there anything else it can possibly be? :(

You definitely got the 6-pin graphics power in as well? Any LEDs lighting on the back of the card at all?

i just took out the gfx card and put it back in, still not firing to the monitor :(

yea they are defintly in, i even swapped the 2 cables over just to test it, this is so annoying i want to play my pc lol :(

and no led lights at all on the card

Got another monitor cable to check with? Also make sure that the cable is connected properly. Mine detached itself the other day, thought my monitor was dead lol.

I'm just trying to think of any issues I've had with this board that you might be experiencing too - it took me three attempts to boot on first start. First time nothing at all appeared, then second time I got stuff on screen, and it said something like "Fatal Error - Execution Halted", and then the third time I think it worked.

yea ive swapped over the digi cable maybe 12 times now lol :( i just unclipped 1 of the heatsink fans to get a proper check on the eax cables, they both seem firmly in place aswell, that was my last hope really lol :(

So you could get it to boot OK until you turned off the Marvell controller and changed some of the cables around? Tried a minimal boot?

i didnt get as far as disabling the marvel in bios, i just changed the satas to the red ones at the side, did some cable tying and pushed the spare cables in to the drive bays, i dont know whats wrong with it :(
