I put the suspected faulty hard drive in my PC alongside my current hard drive and although my PC dected it on start up (pop-up in the bottom right) it didn't show up in My Computer alongside my current C: drive..

I put the suspected faulty hard drive in my PC alongside my current hard drive and although my PC dected it on start up (pop-up in the bottom right) it didn't show up in My Computer alongside my current C: drive..
That'll be because it's not partitioned and formatted yet. Go to Start > Run, type diskmgmt.msc. You can partition/format the drive from there and it should show up in My Computer after that.

Ah right. Done that and it is showing up now.. and seems to be working fine..
So god knows what is wrong with it when I put it in the new build..

Have you tried this in the new build?
The mobo's supposed to autodetect the setting, but I've had cases where the board gets it wrong and the HD won't work until it's set manually.

I'd actually missed that but was just going to try it now. I'll let you know how it goes.

Oooo oooo!
I changed something in the bios to Sata and then pressed F10 to go in to the Raid settings. By this point I didn't really know what the hell I was doing but I knew I had nothing to lose.
Anyway it detected my hard drive and I moved it to the right and chose an option 'Striped' because when I tried the first one (Mirrored) it said something about not having enough hard disks? Anyway, then I chose for the hard disk to be bootable on the next screen and when I restarted the PC it got past the DMI screen and asked me to enter a setup CD!
Sorry if this is jibberish but I have no idea what raid is really so please bare with me. Should I go on with this striped option or should I choose something else?

Ok ignore the above, seems my hard drive is being detected even if I don't set up a RAID thingy..
All I had to do was switch to Sata mode in the bios..
However, I'm having another problem now.
When I go to install Windows XP it does that thing where it loads files before the setup, and then just as it says 'Setup is loading Windows' I get a blue screen of death. Everytime.
Error is: 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xC0000034, 0x000000, 0x000000)
