What are the common causes for the error message? - other than the obvious

I have tried two monitors, same message appears on them both. I have no way of trying the graphics card in another machine to see if that is the fault. The card LED comes on and the fan works. I was really looking forward to using my computer, but now i cant :(

First of all what spec?

+ make sure the 4pin connector is in around the CPU because that can cause your problem.

i've used an 8pin connector to power the CPU, i thought these worked better with quad cores?? and i have the 6 pin in the gfx. i know its the standard message and i know its defo not the monitor thats not working because im using that now as i type, with the same DVI cable so it cant be that either.

full specs are:

Asus P5K Deluxe/WiFi-AP
Intel Q6600
4Gb G.Skill DDR2 PC2-8000 PQ (1000MHz)
Zotac NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT AMP EDITION 512MB
Samsung F1 750GB
Coolermast realpower 520w
Thermalright Ultra-120 EXTREME

Thank you for helping me out guys

Do you see the POST screen at all? then it just comes up with no signal?

cos i have the same problem with my 8800GTS i have to boot in safe mode and then install the drivers within safe mode,

i dont get any screen, just the error message from the monitor, but the message comes up when i boot the thing up so it must know something is happening??

i cant boot in safe mode, nothing comes up at all :(. im satrting to think something is faulty, but is it my motherboard/cpu/gfx? ive been saving my money for so long and now the ******* thing dont even work!
