Just changed over to Giffgaff

Just been looking up some reviews and they are full of comments like this. Network downtime, failed purchases, no customer service, 48 hours! to resolve a problem. I rely heavily on my phone for work, so I will be giving Giffgaff a miss.

Seriously, if you absolutely need your phone, then don't risk it. Sure it might be trouble free, but if it isn't you are guaranteed a world of pain. I've been waiting 4 days now and I can't buy any form of credit and therefore cannot use my phone.

Agreed with all of the points about the customer service, my goodybag has been 'updating' for over 2 weeks but for some reason still getting min, text and data(last top up was 30/12/11)

How much faster do web pages and other similar things process compared to T-Mobile?

For me it's not so much about speed. I've been with Orange for a very long time, but got fed up with the data being so poor you just can't rely on it. From my testing, T-Mo look's to be very similar. I wouldn't take a free unlimited SIM from either of them if they offered...

Basically with Giffgaff I still get all the stuff i got with a contract, but i can choose what i want, plus not tied into any contract anymore, also with a saving of £25 per month aswell.

There is no way i'd ever get a contract phone again. They just cost far too much money. Something like the galaxy nexus is around £35 for 24 months which is £840! You can get the phone new for £400. With something like the giffgaff £10 goodybag that's only £640 over 2 years.

I'm with T-Mobile now as my main phone, but really wish I could swap that out for GiffGaff.

I really miss GiffGaff. :(

Giffgaff are vv poor atm. no internet most of the time. or extremely slow. im in a full coverage area according ro O2 and no issues on O2 status page...... will change end month if it doesnt get better

Just joined yesterday. Might be a stop-gap until my next contract or if they are good i will just buy sim free. Won't be putting credit on there - first goodybag was instant but will be keeping an eye.

Might switch the misses and let her try it out for couple of months before I do.

From what I understand you can have credit and a goodybag running side by side? So when first signing up, top up £10 credit and £10 goodybag. When the goodybag runs out you top up with another but if there is gap between the old one finishing and the new starting you will use up a little but of the £10 credit. But the £10 credit remains as long as you have continuous goodybags.

When I signed up, I bought a £10 goodybag and didn't bother with credit and never have done since then. My account always shows £0.00 but I have the goodybag. The only issue with that is calling 0845 numbers but thats when "say no to 0870" comes in handy.

I'm going out on a limb and ditching T-Mobile after many years. All I wanted was to drop down to a basic tariff of 10 pounds a month with a bare minimum of minutes, texts and net. The cheapest they could offer was nearly 20 quid. My Giffgaff SIM is here, so I'll activate it a few days before my contract expires. If it works out in the next couple of months, I may stick with it and go for a SIM free HTC Edge, or whatever it'll be called...

Due to T Mobile ****ing my bill repeatedly, I am now wityh T Mobile on a Sim Only (shame it ends in April!) for £10.30 ish a month with 500mins, unlimited texts, unlimited internet.

If they renew the sim only at the same price, I am all over that like a teenage chav on a Benson & Hedges.

I'm also on the same tariff. As far as I'm aware, this contract is initially 12 months, then its rolling. So you shouldn't have to renew.

I stuck with T mobile and the full monty plan for another 24 months. O2, 3, Vodaphone, Orange and Giffgaff customer support are all terrible in comparison, I don't understand why I would want to leave t mob for any of them when I can have this full monty plan.

I cannot understand anybody that is not on 3.
15 quid a month gets you 300 mins 3000 text & Unlimited Data. Only excuse not to be on 3 is you are Dead. :D

3 is a rubbish company if you have to deal with their customer services dept. They were the worst company I've dealt with but recently Zavvi took that accolade.

I've been hearing good things about Giffgaff and might be the one for me to go onto when my T-mob contract finishes sometime next year.

If you're happy with their data speeds and coverage, no problem. I couldn't be.

I'd heard horror stories about 3 too, but they were pretty good with me. The guy actually called back to see how I was getting on!

You've been hearing good things about GiffGaff, apart from some of the things in this thread :)

What happens if you top-up £10 and use up all your voice allowance, say in a few days. Would you still be able to use data and text?

I assume you mean buy a £10 goodybag?

This comes with 250mins and unlimited data+texts. You can add cash to your account for when you use all your minutes and it works like a traditional payg.

From what people are saying this is where there can be issues if you don't buy your next goodybag on time.

I really like 3. I have a PAYG SIM and top up £15 a month to get their All in one 15 bundle. This gives me 300 mins, 3000 3-to-3 mins, 3000 texts and completely unlimited Internet access. The O2 network in Norwich seems pretty congested and slow in comparison to 3 which is fast even at the worst of times.

3's all-in-one bundles work on a queueing system. Each component of the bundle is counted as a separate item and the bundle buys you the three components. If, for example, you ran out of minutes two or three days before your remaining texts and unlimited Internet ran out (like I have several times), you can buy another bundle and the minutes will become available instantly, but the texts and Internet access will be queued up and become active when the current texts and data is used up or expires. I have not heard of GiffGaff offering that.

3 allows tethering on PAYG (unlike GiffGaff), which is a great perk and something I use quite often.

Whilst 3's customer services reps are based in India, when I have called before, the people I have spoken with actually seem to know what they're doing. A few months ago, their topup system wasn't working. I had £7.50 of credit left and explained to the 3 customer services rep that I wanted to get the £15 all-in-one bundle. The rep tried my card twice over the phone and it failed both times so he just said "ok sir, we'll just give you the bundle for £7.50, sorry for the inconvenience".

Then why does it state the following below the add-on section when you view the price details.

Pay As You Go plans do not allow tethering. If you would like to tether, you will need to choose a Pay Monthly plan and / or an Add-On that does allow tethering.

Which means either the information is out of date or like giffgaff they don't allow tethering on PAYG plans
