Just checked my oil...just below min!!

^^ yeah I know, will probs get the oil changed in the summer! It has been about 2 years since the last change though, and this is the 1st time it needed topping up!

I recommend this cut out and keep reference guide:

what if there isnt any oil on the stick at all? :o

i over fill mine by 1/2 litre as added protection against oil starvation

NO engine should be overfilled and a 2.5 V6 Durabang more so.

Overfilling the oil leads to the crankshaft counterbalances (which are normally only a few mm above the oil normally) plunging through the oil and causing aeration and cavitation. Over time (and it can be a short period of time) this will wreck the bearings that support the cams (all four of them) and the bottom end. Drop a big end cap and I bet some of the bearings are showing a goldy/yellow colour.

There is a max line for a reason.

And before anyone states I don't know what I'm talking about I've built many high spec engines:-

No, the issue with the CSG-625 is the poorly baffled sump, meaning that when you push the car hard the pick up pipe sucks up air, meaning terminal engine failiure extremely quickly. Putting more oil in cures this issue but introduces a whole host of other problems. The engine is still destroying it's bearings, just not as quickly.

The two correct methods of solving this issue are:-

Fitting a better baffled sump or dry sump system
or
Not pushing the car as hard through the twisty stuff.

then why did ford change the spec on the later engines to 6l from 5.5l without altering anything on the engine itself:)
