Just Completed The Witcher... :D

Great game, but it was a complete shambolic mess upon initial release. Tons of folk including yours truly couldn't even play it due to CTD's in Act1. Eventually they released patches that had to be a certain order, except even that was iffy. The later released enhancement pack solved everything though.

I must have quit and then returned to W1 about 5 odd times due to bugs until I did finish it. I was blown away by how much playability was in the game. Despite the fact that weapons & armour are pointless in the game, W1 was a superb title.

W2 is just as good in every area, but just way too short.

i got the game when it first came out :) i honestly spent like 4 hours deciding whether to side with the Scoi'a'Tel or the Order of the flaming rose in chapter 2. i decided to be neutral :D

I ended up going with the Order as I liked and trusted Siegfried. As for the consequences - whoah.

I kept the savegame before that decision so I'm debating whether to cheat a bit and start from there to try the Scoi'a'Tel/Neutral paths. The problem is that Shani doesn't like me at that point (she's a bit of a bleeding heart which is why I didn't care much for her on this run through). :p

Not sure about weapons being pointless - do you mean the ones you make? I never got the 3 potion quick slots although I had raven's armour, didn't understand that at all.

Full Moon + Willow + Tawny Oil + Swallow + Wolverine = Ownage. :D

The rain mod in particular is excellent, i ended up installing them all and it looked stunning. There is one linked in there that overhauls things like the inventory, but it also changes combat a little too much for me, i installed it but at the time i was still getting used to the combat so found it way too hard.

Anyway stick with it, i know it can be quite slow at the start but next week we shall have a review from you that will be very positive, trust me;)

Yup, the beast fight is the worst set up in the game in so far as, there is really no warning its coming, then it saves then goes into it so you can't prepare for it at all. Nor is there much guidance of where to go leveling wise to that point, a few points in different skills makes a world of difference that early in the game.

I think earlier on there was also a bug that meant it could be nigh on impossible. First play through I literally could not beat it, I'd get killed almost instantly almost every time, though I can't remember why, I grabbed a trainer, went invincible, even then I was constantly hit backwards and interrupted and it took a while but didn't die. THen deleted the trainer, far too tempting to cheat every time it gets hard.

The second play through basically a year+ later, the fight was less buggy, less difficult and better leveling choices meant it was basically a breeze.

To be honest the first time around I probably could have done it but, meh, it was all that talking every damned time, I just couldn't be bothered.

That was one of those points where in another game it would be the first of many awful fights that kills the game, thankfully that is the worst and pretty much only fight that is so painstakingly horrific. The game to that point is also kinda, crap, from that fight onwards the game is pretty much increasingly brilliant though.

It's a shame the intro and much of the game to that point is bad. Again the first time I tried it on release I didn't get past that point, it felt like an awful game. When I finally got through that bit to the "good" part of the game, honestly its almost like playing a different game.

I didn't have a problem with that fight as i played the Steam Directors Cut version, but i really don't think i played the Enhanced Edition as i found that the repetition of character models was really off-putting. People tell me that the Enhanced Edition replaces many of them so that there is more variety though. Is it noticeable with the Enhanced edition still?

It says Enhanced Edition in my Steam Library, but the reused characters are still very annoying, i think something must be wrong.

Been playing a bit more in Venzema (sp?) and it seems a bit livelier here, plenty of quests getting activated although things tend to be a bit too time-dependent for my liking (considering there is no 'Wait' function, you have to find a trigger point to meditate etc). Very annoying when you have a quest marker to meet somebody, but you go there and they aren't around, especially if you don't know what sort of time of day to expect them.

To be honest I don't see why they couldn't have jumped straight to this town section after the prologue, I suppose some of the characters/story/decisions in Chapter 1 will come into play later in the game but as a standalone chapter it certainly didn't grab me.

One weird bug I've got is with beards in cutscenes, lol. They just seem to completely spaz out flipping up and down and it is highly distracting when talking to dwarves!

Oh and one really annoying thing about the Best fight was the really shoddy hit detection on the ring of fire, you could get stunned by it even if you didn't touch it. My tactic in the end was to drink Swallow/Tawny and run round in a big wide circle while regenerating health and endurance before giving back in to fight again

Played the first chapter a few months ago and just really couldnt get into it :(

Going to give it another go i think at some point
