Just don't know what to do

The GTX is still a whole different monster even if you match clocks.

For dx10 maybe but would it make a difference in dx9? On paper the only real advantage it has is more stream units.

Nope. Even in DX9 a GTX is still far ahead of a GTS @ GTX clocks, and the difference only gets bigger as resolution and antialiasing settings are increased. That's why I am considering selling up my GTS and buying a bigger monitor + second-hand GTX. :)

Hm, Well i'm stumped at what to do

Well evga cards have the stepup program, if a new card comes out within 90 days of you buying a card (and registering it with them) you send them your card and pay the difference. So you could buy a gts in a month or 2 and have the possibility of upgrading to an 8900gts at minimum price, assuming of course it comes within 90 days of you buying and registering the card.

Just to play Devils Advocate - the 2900XT comes into your price range (just). New drivers released tomorrow are meant to reinforce the performance of the 2900XT.

Aye they do offer step-up in the UK now. :)
the thing is you pay the diff of what you paid and the RRP which is considerably more than what youd buy it at OCuK for ;)

i have a 6600 and waiting till after my exams to ook at prices and will prob either get the evega GTS 320 the leadtech 640mb GTS or the leadtech GTX depending on the price. personaly id like to wait for DX10 games and 2nd 3rd gen cards but my 6600 wont last that long ;)

That's the point of the step-up programme and it works the same way in the USA too. :)

Don't forget, you pay the difference between what you originally paid and the RRP of the new card. If you were simply to sell your old card and buy a new one, your old card would've lost a significant amount of value.

my point its a toss up.

if you aresure that a brand spanking new shingy power frenzed card is comeing out in the next 3 months get it but if not you dont what to either not upgrade or upgrade to a slightly better card

I'd get a 8800gts 320MB now and when the 8900 cards come out sell the gts and get a 8900. I don't think these 8800's are going to be cracking at dx10 games anyway, just my personal opinion.

I thought nvida arent doing 8900 series. They said they were jumping straight to g90 core development, to try and stay ahead of ATI.
